TxDOT Projects Continue in Shelby County, Other Areas of Lufkin District

August 4, 2017 - Work is scheduled in the coming week on two different locations of US 59 that will require daily lane closures.

Guardrail work on US 59/SL 287 in Lufkin will continue. Work at the Atkinson Drive/SH 103 East overpass has been completed and traffic is flowing normally. Crews have begun working to replace guardrail near the frontage roads at Chestnut Drive/FM 58. Motorists should expect daytime lane closures should be expected.

TxDOT Approves San Augustine, Angelina, Shelby Projects Totaling $6.8 Million

August 1, 2017 – The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved nearly $488.3 million in new construction projects statewide, with three located in the Lufkin District.

The new projects total $6.8 million and are located in San Augustine, Angelina and Shelby counties. The work includes bridge replacements and right-of-way work.

TxDOT Explains Law Firm Advertisements

June 26, 2017 - Local property owners are confused about letters received from a law firm in Houston in an advertising attempt to gain business.

The letters say, “TxDOT will likely take your property” which is stamped “advertisement” at the bottom of the letter. The property owners are mostly located near current or future TxDOT construction projects. These advertisements should be disregarded.

On the way home from a spring break trip last year, her teenage daughters were killed when the car in which they were riding collided with an 18-wheeler. Brianna Robinson, 19, and Jade Robinson, 17, died when the car’s driver lost control and veered into oncoming traffic while checking her phone.

Texas Transportation Commission Approves New Projects in Lufkin District

May 31, 2017 Lufkin – The Texas Transportation Commission on Thursday approved more than $422.1 million in new construction projects statewide, including $2.1 million for the nine-county Lufkin District.

A multi-county project was approved for $831,249 that was designed to enhance safety and will include texturing the shoulders and centerlines of several roadways. Stripe-A-Zone, Inc., Grand Prairie, will serve as contractor. Locations in this project include:

May 12, 2017 LUFKIN – As weather turns warmer, TxDOT workers and contractors are busy with construction and maintenance projects throughout the nine county Lufkin District.

Motorists are urged to exercise caution as they enter a work zone. Stay alert and watch for moving equipment and workers who might be near the lane of travel. Reduce speed and remember that traffic fines double when workers are present. Work planned for the Lufkin District in the coming week includes:

"Click It or Ticket" Campaign Saves More than 5,000 Lives

May 9, 2017 – This month marks the 15th anniversary of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign urging Texans to buckle up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that since its inception 15 years ago, our life-saving campaign has resulted in 5,068 fewer traffic fatalities. However, from 2015 to 2016, deaths among people not wearing seat belts increased 9 percent.
