Exit Ramps in Lufkin Set to Close; Work Continues on Shelby County Roadways

January 13, 2018 - Two busy exit ramps on SL 287 in Lufkin are scheduled for closure beginning Monday, Jan. 22,  for rehabilitation of the roadway.

Northbound exit ramps located at US 69 South and at FM 841 (Ford Chapel Road) will be closed starting on Monday, the 22nd,  as crews work to resurface the ramps. Work is expected to be completed on the two ramps by Wednesday, Jan. 24, weather permitting.

New Speed Limit Approved for Portion of SL 224 in Nacogdoches

December 13, 2017 Lufkin – A change in the speed limit for a portion of US 59/SL 224 in Nacogdoches County has been approved.

The lower speed limit will include the area between US 59/SL 224 and SH 7 West. The speed limit will be reduced from 65 miles per hour to 55 miles per hour.

A speed study was done in the area and the recommendation to lower the speed was approved by the Nacogdoches City Council. The new speed limit will be enforceable once signs are set.

Damaging Road Signs is Against the Law

December 12, 2017 - What seems like a harmless act of mischief and is many times committed by juveniles can mean an arrest and fines when it comes to defacing a road sign.

According to the Texas Penal Code, it is against the law to damage a traffic control device, including a road sign, railroad sign or crossing, traffic control signal or any other device owned by the state to direct the movement of transportation.

TxDOT Reports One in Four Holiday Crash Fatalities Involve Drunk Drivers

November 30, 2017 - TxDOT’s ‘Plan While You Can’ campaign aims to reduce crashes, save lives during holiday season

During last year’s holiday season,* approximately one in four deaths on Texas roadways were alcohol-related. In an effort to reduce these fatalities, the Texas Department of Transportation’s “Plan While You Can” campaign reminds drivers to make planning a sober ride part of their holiday celebrations.

Closures Planned in Nacogdoches for Coming Weeks

November 21, 2017 Lufkin – Repair work is being planned in Nacogdoches County beginning next week and will continue through coming weeks.

Work is scheduled to begin on BU 59, at the intersection of US 59 and US 259 to allow for the repair of the concrete bridge rail on the northbound overpass that crosses US 59.

The inside lane of BU 59N will be closed to through traffic to US 259N. Motorists needing to access US 259 North will still be able to access the clover leaf onto US 259N. The work should be completed in about three weeks, weather permitting.
