TxDOT Urges Young Drivers to Plan for Sober Ride Ahead of Spring Break

TxDOT reminds Spring Breakers about deadly, long-term consequences of drinking and driving

March 7, 2019 Austin – Spring Break is a dangerous time on Texas roads, with hundreds of impaired driving crashes involving young drivers occurring each year. As college students and young adults head to Spring Break destinations in the coming weeks, the Texas Department of Transportation’s “Plan While You Can” campaign reminds them to make a plan for a sober ride before the party starts.

Lufkin District Project Updates for Feb 25-March 1

February 22, 2019 Lufkin – With spring right around the corner, Lufkin District construction projects and work schedules are continuing as weather allows.

Motorists are urged to stay alert as they travel through the many work zones in the nine-county Lufkin District. Always reduce speed and watch and obey any traffic control in the area. Prepare for delays and be patient if there are lane closures through work zones.

Football Fans Urged to Make a Sober Ride Part of Their Super Bowl Game Plan

‘Plan While You Can’ campaign aims to reverse trend in alcohol-related crashes during Super Bowl weekend

January 28, 2019 Austin – With the excitement of Super Bowl weekend just days away, the Texas Department of Transportation is urging football fans to “Plan While You Can” for a sober ride before enjoying game-day watch parties and other activities that may involve alcohol. 

Lower Speed Limits Approved on Roadways in Three Counties

January 22, 2019 Lufkin – TxDOT Commissioners in December approved a reduction in the speed limit for sections of roadways in Nacogdoches, Polk and San Augustine counties.

In Nacogdoches County, the speed limit will be reduced from 70 miles per hour to 65 miles per hour on SH 21 East from the Nacogdoches city limits to the San Augustine County line.

In Polk County, the speed limit will be reduced from 70 miles per hour to 65 miles per hour on US 190 from the Livingston city limits to the Tyler County line.

TxDOT Alert for Work Zone in Timpson

December 28, 2018 - US 59 at the railroad underpass in Timpson will be closed in both the north and southbound inside lanes today to begin repairs to the damaged road surface and concrete culvert beneath. Single lane of travel in each direction will be allowed until work is competed. Be prepared for possible delays. Stay alert for workers, nearby moving equipment and reduce speed through this work zone.
