Public Urged to Observe Right-of-Way Restrictions

July 6, 2016 -  With summer garage sales and upcoming elections, TxDOT wants to remind the public what is allowed to be placed on TxDOT right-of-ways.

Encroachments on state highways and right-of-ways includes any unauthorized structures, vehicles or roadside vendors. These items could cause damage to the roadway system, increase litter and frequently create an unsafe or hazardous condition.

TxDOT Reports Work to Begin on US 59 Median in Nacogdoches

June 17, 2016 LUFKIN – Construction crews have begun setting traffic barriers in preparation for median construction on US 59 in Nacogdoches County.

Approximately 1,100-foot of concrete median will be set south of SL 224 in Nacogdoches on US 59 in what is the existing center two-way left turn lane. In addition, work will continue on nearby sidewalks and driveways throughout the project. Repairs and replacements of curb and gutter and various sections of pavement structure are being built on the widening project both north and south of Spradley Street.

Construction, Maintenance Updates for Lufkin District Scheduled for June 13-17

June 13, 2016 LUFKIN – With summer sunshine allowing the Lufkin District to work on many construction and maintenance projects, motorists are urged to watch for crews working alongside the roadways and be prepared to reduce speed through construction zones.

Many times construction or maintenance work requires a lane to be closed and drivers should remain alert to flaggers, work convoys and lighted signs warning of work ahead.

State Approves Funding for AL Manghum Jr. Airport

May 31, 2016 LUFKIN – The Texas Transportation Commission approved funding for improvements for AL Mangham Jr. Regional Airport at its May meeting in Austin last week.

Funds totaling $58,750 were approved and earmarked for improvements which include engineering and design for fencing improvements at the airport. A project consultant is expected to begin work this summer.

Costs for the project will be funded by the TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program and the City of Nacogdoches. The grant program preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system.

Transportation Commission Approves New Projects

May 31, 2016 -  The Texas Transportation Commission last week approved 60 maintenance and construction projects across the state totaling $186.3 million, with five located in the Lufkin District that total $8 million.

Angelina, Nacogdoches, Polk, San Jacinto and Trinity counties were approved for construction projects that will rehabilitate roadways, replace and repair bridge and approaches, upgrade culverts and resurface existing pavement. Specific projects included:

Projects Progressing in Lufkin District

May 9, 2016 LUFKIN – Construction on US 59 in Nacogdoches County will progress this week as additional concrete is placed on the westbound exit ramp near SL 224.

Construction crews will work on the ramp where it intersects the loop and continue to construct driveways and sidewalks throughout the project. Curb and gutter is also being replaced and repaired and cross-drainage structures are also being extended. Concrete will also be placed at the northeast corner of East Spradley and subcontractors are planning to mow throughout project, weather permitting.
