Closures Planned at Lufkin Loop and US 59 South

January 8, 2015 LUFKIN – Road closures are scheduled in Lufkin at US 59 South and SL 287 next Wednesday and Thursday as maintenance crews work near the northbound and southbound direct connectors.

On Wednesday, Jan. 13, the southbound direct connector from SL 287 to US 59/South First Street will be closed as barrier walls are straightened. Both northbound and southbound inside lanes of US 59 will also be closed near Walmart.

State Approves Funding for San Augustine Airport

November 20, 2015 - The Texas Transportation Commission approved $95,000 Thursday for San Augustine County airport improvements.

Commissioners approved the funding at their November meeting in Austin and earmarked the money for engineering/design for pavement improvements at the airport. A project consultant will be named later this year.

The project costs will be funded through San Augustine County and TxDOT’s Aviation Facilities Grant Program, which preserves and improves the state’s general aviation system.

Opportunity for Public Hearing

October 20, 2015 - LUFKIN – The public is being given the opportunity to request a public hearing regarding an upcoming Texas Department of Transportation project on FM 2609/East Austin Street.

TxDOT, in partnership with the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) and the City of Nacogdoches, is proposing to widen FM 2609/East Austin Street between Raguet Street and North Street in Nacogdoches, consisting of about one-fourth of a mile.

Motorists Urged to Remain Alert to Changes at US 59/Loop 224 in Nacogdoches

October 14, 2015 - LUFKIN – TxDOT reminds motorists attempting to exit US 59 and continue westbound on SL 224 or continue on to US 59 North in Nacogdoches that traffic patterns have changed.

Webber LLC, contractor for the $5.9 million project, redirected traffic last week which included the closure of the cloverleaf entry ramp that exited from the outside lane of US 59. The newly constructed exit has redirected traffic to the inside lanes of US 59, exiting onto SL 224 westbound/US 59 northbound.

Center Municipal Airport Awarded Grant for Improvements, Commission Approves Shelby County Project

September 1, 2015 LUFKIN - The Texas Transportation Commission last week approved 91 construction projects statewide totaling more than $535 million, and includes five within the Lufkin District that total $16.8 million.

Of the 91 projects, 22 were approved using $304 million of Proposition 1 funding. Two Lufkin District projects were included in the latest round of Proposition 1 funding and totaled $11.7 million. The funds are used for roadway construction, restoration and rehabilitation and will improve mobility, safety and connectivity.
