US 84 Boat Ramp to be Opened on Weekends

March 3, 2016 LUFKIN – The boat ramp on US 84 at the TX/LA state line in Haslam will be opened on weekends beginning this weekend as construction continues on the US 84 bridge that crosses the Sabine River.

The ramp will remain closed during weekday demolition of the existing bridge, since traffic is now traveling on the newly constructed eastbound bridge. Once the demolition is complete and construction of the new westbound bridge begins, there are plans to open the boat ramp daily but boaters could experience intermittent closures throughout the construction project.

Candidates Are Reminded of Sign Removal Deadline

March 1, 2016 - LUFKIN – The Texas Department of Transportation recognizes that many candidates across the state use signage as a way to influence voters during the campaign season. With the passing of Super Tuesday, TxDOT is reminding candidates that the 10-day period to remove campaign signs has begun.

State law regulates political signage placed near a roadway as well as the removal of those signs following a primary or general election. Candidates are given 10 days to remove all signs following an election.

Lufkin District Project Updates for Feb 29th to Mar 1st

February 26, 2016 - LUFKIN – The frontage road on SL 287 is now open as well as both U-turn bridges at US 59. The completion of the access road means greater ease of access to and from local businesses located along the south side of SL 287. Motorists can access the new frontage road and Moffett Road by exiting SL 287 or US 59. The U-turn bridges can be accessed by exiting SL 287 from north or southbound lanes.

Nacogdoches County Street Closed

February 25, 2016 - LUFKIN – The $14 million construction project on US 59/SL 224 in Nacogdoches County has called for the closing of West Spradley Street for several weeks.

Webber LLC, contractors for the project, closed the roadway Thursday morning to through traffic in order to reconstruct approximately 100-feet of Spradley Street with concrete pavement. Detour signs are in place for local traffic to access the roadway by traveling Old Lufkin Road.

Projects Slated to Begin in Nacogdoches County

February 23, 2016 - LUFKIN – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) held a pre-construction meeting Monday afternoon that signaled the beginning of two construction projects in Nacogdoches County.

Pinto Construction, contractor for both projects, is scheduled to set project barricades this week. A $1 million project will rehabilitate and widen FM 95. The roadway will be widened from 22 to 24 feet from Red Springs Road to the county line for a distance of 1.7 miles.

Speed Limit Changing on SH 7

February 22, 2016 - LUFKIN – The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is preparing to post new lower speed limit signs this week on a portion of SH 7 in Angelina County. The change becomes effective once signs are posted.

The speed limit will be reduced from 75 miles per hour to 70 miles per hour on SH 7 from SH 103 West to the Nacogdoches County line. Other areas of SH 7 will remain at the posted limits.
