Meeting designed to gather input on future projects
July 27, 2020 – A virtual public hearing is scheduled Tuesday, July 28, beginning at 10 am to discuss the development of the 2021 Unified Transportation Program. A virtual public meeting was also held on July 7. The 2021 UTP could be considered for adoption at the August TxDOT Commission meeting in Austin.
Last year 412 motorcyclists died and 1,812 were seriously injured on Texas roads
July 13, 2020 – On average, one motorcyclist dies every day on Texas roads, and transportation officials are urging Texans to exercise caution and limit distractions while on the road, as traffic increases during the summer months.
July 9, 2020 - ALERT: Crews will apply a fog seal tomorrow through Saturday on SH 7 in Shelby County from Mount Herman to US 96. All lanes will be treated and motorists should expect alternating lane closures from 7 am to 7 pm each day.
TxDOT’s ‘Plan While You Can’ campaign features personal stories urging drivers to plan for a sober ride
July 2, 2020 – Sean Carter’s ability to speak was taken from him more than 15 years ago, when he was a college junior and went out drinking with friends. He knew he was in no condition to drive home – but neither was the buddy who gave him a ride. Without a plan for a sober ride, the drunk driver crashed the truck, leaving Sean with a traumatic brain injury and unable to walk or talk.
April 29, 2020 - Due to storms that rolled through overnight in much of the area, Oncor crews are working storm restoration that is expected to continue through the day and night. Time of restoration by Oncor is unknown at this time.
Because of this unforeseen circumstance, Oncor has canceled the work scheduled in Nacogdoches on US 59 and SL 224, which included nine rolling stops to remove electric wires through the flyover construction project.
At this time depending upon weather, this work has been rescheduled to Thursday, May 7th.
Efforts include travel center lobby closures, canceling in-person public meetings, safety messages, and a telework directive for office employees
March 17, 2020 - TxDOT is acting to help reduce the risk of COVID-19. On Friday and over the weekend the department took several steps to protect the public and TxDOT employees. At the same time, TxDOT remains committed to delivering services to its customers all over the Lone Star State.
March 3, 2020 Lufkin – A pre-construction meeting was held Tuesday at the Lufkin District office signaling the beginning of a project that will include sealcoating various roads throughout the district. Crews will begin setting barricades on March 30 with work scheduled to begin April 20.
D.I.J. Construction, Inc., Bertram TX, will serve as contractor for the $9.5 million project that is expected to be completed in June, weather permitting. A seal coat extends the life of a roadway by sealing the pavement structure from infiltrating water.
