Update 1:43pm - FM 2390 in San Augustine County remains closed after a propane truck overturned earlier this morning. Crews are on scene and clean-up is ongoing. Motorists should prepare for delays or choose alternate routes.
July 19, 2019 - Motorists will likely encounter a work zone or road closure as work continues in many areas. While work schedules are likely to change in inclement weather, plans for construction and maintenance of roadways extend throughout the nine-county Lufkin District.
Motorists are urged to reduce speed through a work zone, obey the Move Over, Slow Down law and stay alert for workers and moving equipment through work zones. Project updates and plans for the week of July 22-26 include:
July 18, 2019 - Work is expected to begin Monday, July 22, in Shelby County that will require lane closures at an intersection through August 9, weather permitting.
SH 87 at SL 500 in Center will have lane closures and delays as parts of the intersection are milled and repairs are made to the base of the roadway. A hot mix overlay will be applied to the intersection to complete the surface. Intermittent lane closures are expected throughout the project until completion.
June 28, 2019 Lufkin – The summer season in the Lufkin District is one of the busiest with many construction projects progressing toward completion. Crews are not expected to work on the roadways July 4 to allow for heavier than normal traffic during the holiday time period.

June 28, 2019 Lufkin – Texas Transportation Commissioners on Thursday approved more than $619 million for construction projects statewide that included more than $43 million in the Lufkin District.

June 19, 2019 - TxDOT advises FM 1970 North near US 84 in Shelby County is closed after a truck overturned. Hazmat crews are on the scene. Prepare for delays. Scene should be cleared in about an hour when truck is uprighted.
May 10, 2019 - The Lufkin District is moving into late spring and early summer with many ongoing construction and maintenance projects. Motorists are urged to use caution, reduce speed and stay alert as they travel through a work zone. Obey all signage, flaggers and lead cars. Never drive around cones or barricades in a work zone. Also be prepared to stop.

May 2, 2019 Lufkin – In spite of a decrease in work zone crashes in Texas last year, 161 people still lost their lives and another 684 were seriously injured, with the vast majority of those killed—84 percent—being motorists and/or their passengers. The Texas Department of Transportation highlights its Be Safe. Drive Smart campaign along with Work Zone Awareness to remind motorists to stay alert and exercise caution when driving through work zones.
