Let's Celebrate Our Graduates!

May 19, 2020 - Each year the month of May is typically filled with Senior celebrations as graduates near the end of their high school or college journey.

A journey filled with countless hours of studying, worrying, stressing, working, pushing yourself beyond what you thought you could do and filled with moments ending with relief, joy of finishing and achieving, winning, and more.

Piney Woods Photographic Society Announces Macro Photography Winners

May 18, 2020 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their online monthly challenge on Macro photography, "Itsy-Bitsy." Members who submitted photographs created some really spectacular photographs this month. I can see that there was a lot of work put into these pics this month. Participants really showed a lot of creativity with their entries.

Flags at Half Staff in Honor of Memorial Day

May 18, 2020 - Memorial Day is Monday, May 25th, 2020. United States Flags should be flown at half-staff from sunrise until noon. All banks, schools, businesses and government offices that fly a flag that can be lowered are asked to please do so in honor of those Americans who have made the ultimate sacrifice. All other flags flying with the US Flag should also be lowered.

If you fly a flag that can’t be lowered, you can still show respect for the day by tying a black cord or ribbon to the top of the flag pole. It too should be removed at noon.

Mother's Day Tribute by Joan Garrett

May 11, 2020 - Women who are mothers, step-mothers, grandmothers, god-mothers, adopted mothers, you all deserve to be honored for Mothers Day. Articles have been written for the ones I paid tribute to this week, and now my comforting words go out to everyone of the Mothers in the community. Please continue to be the mother to care for your children and provide service to the community and churches. May your life be prosperous and healthy for many years in the future.

Mother's Day Spotlight: Kathy Mosby and Rhonda Page

May 9, 2020 - Kathy Mosby, a graduate of Daniels High School in the early 60s, is an ambitious lady. She moved to Houston and worked at one of the oil and gas companies. After retirement, she became a fashion consultant and held many fashion shows for organizations as well as owned a boutique for women. Wanting to serve her community in her own caring ways, she opened her first senior assisted living home, which has now grown into several homes today. Kathy, known by hometown people as Sue Ann Eaden, has been a caring person as well as mother and grandmother.

A Special Aunt

May 8, 2020 - I am sure everyone has a special aunt to brag on this week of Mother’s Day. I will do the same for my Aunt Hazel Garrett Brown. Auntie has reached that Golden Old Age where the family must be careful with her. I think she is 90 years old. She is the only child remaining of Edgar and Sally Ann Garrett who were prominent citizens of Center and members of St. Paul Church before their demise. I always wanted to be like my Aunt Hazel. She worked as a hairdresser in a shop in Center for many years before moving to Longview Texas after her marriage to Prentiss Brown.
