September 5, 2024 - The Fannie Brown Booth Memorial Library is pleased to announce the awarding of the Tocker Foundation Library Transformation Grant in the amount of $100,000. The Tocker Foundation promotes public libraries in communities of 12,000 or less. The Tocker Foundation was established in 1964 to implement the philanthropic interests of Phillip and Olive Tocker. Mr. Tocker was an attorney and built an outdoor advertising business in Waco, TX. In 1993 and 1994, Mr. and Mrs. Tocker endowed the foundation with their estates.
September 4, 2024 - On Monday, September 2, 2024, VFW Post 8904 and the Auxiliary held a wreath-laying in honor of V J (Victory over Japan) Day. On this day, 79 years ago, aboard the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, the Japanese signed the instrument of surrender that ended World War II.

August 29, 2024 - Chamber of Commerce members and ambassadors attended a ribbon cutting at Diamond B Cafe in Center to celebrate and welcome business owner Marty Brandon once again to the business community on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.
August 27, 2024 - A new member ribbon cutting was held for CT’s Space Place on Thursday, July 11th to welcome them to the Shelby County Chamber of Commerce business community.
August 26, 2024 - The Piney Woods Photographic Society held their monthly meeting this past Saturday in Center at the First Methodist Church. The monthly challenge were photos submitted by club members on "Patterns/Textures/Lines."
The selections that were submitted showed a group of outstanding photos. Everyone had a good time reviewing and discussing everyone's photos.
August 24, 2024 - Timpson Masonic Lodge thanks the community for their support, with the fundraiser. Friday, August 23, was a big success for lil River McAfee.
