May 16, 2015 - The Delta Gamma Chapter of The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International celebrated a Founders' Day Ceremony at their May meeting to show appreciation and gratitude for the twelve women whose vision and foresight founded the Society.
Dr. Annie Webb Blanton had a dream of a society of women teachers, and she founded the group on May 11, 1929. The Delta Gamma Chapter serves key women educators in Sabine, San Augustine, and Shelby Counties.
May 16, 2015 - During National Nursing Home Week, Holiday Nursing Center recognized their volunteers with a Fiesta Luncheon. Volunteers were rewarded with door prizes and gift cards in appreciation for their services. Holiday Nursing Center wishes to thank each volunteer for everything they do.

May 16, 2015 - Sam Samford Masonic Lodge #149, presented the Golden Trowel to Secretary, Roger Doyle. The Golden Trowel is the highest award that a lodge can present to a member. It is awarded to a member who exhibits continued service above that which is normally expected. The award was presented by Worshipful Master, Ron Barker. Roger and his wife Judy were escorted by member Clay Ihlo.
May 15, 2015 (Proclamation) - Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison and Relay for Life representatives gathered in the Shelby County Courthouse Thursday to proclaim Friday, May 15, 2015 as Cancer Awareness Day.
The 10th Annual Relay for Life is being held Friday evening May 15, 2015 from 6pm to 12am in the Shelby County Rodeo Arena located on State Highway 7 East.
May 15, 2015 - The Friends of the Library (FOL) president, Amy Robertson and secretary Melba Gillis present the proceeds from the spring book sale to Sandra Davis, library director of the Fannie Brown Booth library. This donation will be used for new books for the library.
May 15, 2015 - Jordan Wagstaff, the grandson of James and Glenda Wagstaff of Center, will be participating in a special race honoring an FDNY fire chief who lost his life on September 11, 2001.
The special race is a first ever Stair-Climb Benefit at One World Trade Center to be held on May 17, 2015. Registration for the event was limited to 1,000 participants and Wagstaff will be amoung the few.
May 14, 2015 - Members of the Center Noon Lions Club sold chicken meals on the Center square on Thursday, May 14, 2015 to raise funds for the Texas Lions Camp in Kerrville. The club succeeded at selling over 500 plates.
May 13, 2015 (Photos by Shelby County Today) - In observance of National Police Week, Center PD Ladies Auxiliary honored the officers of the Center Police Department with a pizza lunch, cake and appreciation gifts.
May 19, 2015 - The Shelby County Chamber of Commerce Teacher Appreciation reception hosted by the Shelby County Chamber and presented by Cline Family Medicine will be held on Wednesday, May 20th at the Windham Civic Center in Center at 4:00 p.m. The reception is held annually to salute and recognize the dedicated administrations and teaching staff of all the Shelby County school districts.
