May 7, 2015 - Miss Lillian Marie Green, age 5, has been chosen as a State Finalist in the National American Miss Texas Pageant to be held on June 19 and 20 at the beautiful Royal Sonesta, Houston, Texas. The pageant if held for girls ages four through six.
May 7, 2015 - The Bone Hill Foundation would like to congratulate all Seniors Graduating from Center, Timpson, Shelbyville, Joaquin, and Tenaha. We encourage all graduates to seek out further education in College or Vocational Schools to prepare you for the future.
The Bone Hill Foundation was established in 1967 by Will Bridges with the goal of helping those in need. Originally this property was called the Bone Hill Ranch.
May 11, 2015 - Over the last two months the Lakes Area Beekeepers Association has been raising money with a raffle for a Warré hive built by club member James Laughlin.
The money is used to support the LABA student sponsorship program which helps younger members with their beekeeping endeavors. More than $250 was raised and on Tuesday, May 5th, at the monthly meeting, the drawing was held. Lloyd Duplant, of Hemphill, Texas, was the winner. Mr. Duplant is an experienced beekeeper and said he was looking forward to trying out this type of hive.
May 11, 2015 - A proclamation was signed by Shelby County Judge Allison Harbison on May 11, 2015 in recognition of National Nursing Home Week.
The proclamation reads as follows:
Whereas, all residents of Shelby County have been given a proud legacy build upon the past and present contributions of our country's elderly and disabled people; and
Whereas, we salute the residents of our nursing facilities, many of whom planted the seeds that made our communities grow and prosper; and
May 11, 2015 - Holiday Nursing Center hosted a Mother’s Day celebration on Sunday, May 10th. Prizes were given to the “wisest mother”, who was Golda Punkoney, age 99, and the youngest mother which was Tanya Belin. Thank you to all who participated in our appreciation of our Mothers.
May 9, 2015 - Shelby County VFW Post 8904 is searching to find out who is the oldest and youngest living World War II veterans in the county. If you have one in your family or know one, give their name and date of birth to Larry Hume, VFW Post 8904 Quartermaster. Must be living.
May 8, 2015 - A new Roughrider Scholarship was established in memory of Delores Ann Walker after a donation was presented in her memory on Tuesday, April 21, 2015 during Rotary meeting.
