The Texas Legislature opens the following day at noon.

December 27, 2022 - As a pre-teen growing up in East Texas, my hobby was keeping up with the changes in automobiles. I could identify for anyone the make, model, and year of any vehicle I saw on the road. I actually cut out pictures of new automobiles I found in magazines and put them in a binder by year.

December 26, 2022 - I was Pastor of The First Baptist Church of Shelbyville, Texas when Mother called me from Center saying  that she had invited Joe and Mimi Boland to attend our church. “They live at the Old Center community a few miles from Joaquin,” she said. “You’ll like them the first time you see them.”  The next Sunday morning, Joe came smiling his way into our sanctuary. “I’m Joe Boland,” he said as he sat down. Two weeks later, he and his wife Mimi joined our church and even though they lived thirty miles away, they seldom missed a service.

Underserved Communities to Benefit from $20 Million in Health Center Grants

August 4, 2022 - The Department of State Health Services is seeking grant applications for the DSHS Federally Qualified Health Center Incubator Program. Program grants will help eligible non-profit and public health care providers expand their services among underserved and uninsured Texans.

“Supporting people’s access to quality health care is part of DSHS’s mission to improve the health and well-being of Texans,” said DSHS Commissioner John Hellerstedt, MD. “This funding will further that goal in communities across Texas.”

Grants Available for Projects That Promote Sustainable Community Forests

December 21, 2022 - Texas A&M Forest Service is soliciting applications for a pair of $50,000 grants to promote healthy trees and forests.

The agency’s Community Forestry Grants Program seeks to fund community forestry-focused projects in two areas: climate resiliency and community equity.

To be eligible, applicants must be public or non-profit organizations and can include state and local government agencies, educational institutions, non-government organizations and public utility districts. Individuals, businesses and federal agencies are not eligible.

DPS Encourages Everyone to be Safe, Aware This Holiday Season

December 21, 2022 - The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) is encouraging everyone to end 2022 safely as they travel and spend time with family and friends this holiday season. The Texas Highway Patrol will conduct its annual Christmas and New Year’s holiday traffic enforcement campaign beginning Dec. 23 and will be out on the roads looking for people who are speeding, not wearing their seat belts, driving while intoxicated or committing other traffic violations.
