June 16, 2021 - Today, Governor Greg Abbott signed House Bill 5 by State Representative Trent Ashby (R-Lufkin) and State Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) which will increase access to and adoption of high-speed internet throughout Texas. The measure was deemed by the Governor as one of only eight Emergency Items for the 87th Legislature and received a low bill number, indicating priority status, by both Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick and Speaker Dade Phelan.

June 11, 2021 – The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas waives day-use fees at recreation sites on June 12 for National Get Outdoors Day.

“We hope this free day offers an incentive to all people to experience the great outdoors in our forests and grasslands,” Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor said.

June 10, 2021 - A draft copy of the Deep East Texas Council of Governments Regional Housing Authority Annual Plan for its 2021-2022 U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8 Rental Assistance) is now available for review and comment. This plan contains goals and strategies to promote adequate and affordable housing for low-income families in the Deep East Texas region. Input and support are solicited from all communities.
