October 31, 2017 - My sister’s first husband was a barber, operating the Sanitary Barber Shop in San Augustine, Texas in the early 1950s. Robert Crosby was a good barber, with a good clientele, but he had an illness. He was bitten by the “law enforcement” bug. My sister, Evelyn, was not all too happy with Robert’s decision to sell his barber shop and enter state trooper school in Austin, Texas. However, soon after his application for the school was accepted, he was on his way to camp Mabry in Austin for several months of intense training.

Nichols Appointed to Sunset Advisory Commission for Third Time

October 30, 2017 - Recently, Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick appointed State Senator Robert Nichols (R-Jacksonville) to serve his third term on the Texas Sunset Advisory Commission. 

"I am honored that Lt. Governor Patrick has appointed me again to serve on the Sunset Advisory Commission," said Nichols. "The work done by the Commission is essential for ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in our state's government."

Nichols previously served on the Commission from 2009 to 2013 and then from 2015 to 2017. He also served as Vice Chairman. 

4th Annual Halloween in the Hole (Sign-up Deadline)

October 24, 2017 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and John Burns – Farmers Insurance Agency will host the 4th annual Halloween in the Hole, Monday, October 30 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Center High School baseball field.

All Shelby County businesses and organizations are invited to participate. Participants are required to provide their own table (folding table or smaller), candy or treats, table decorations, etc. Participants need a sign on the front of their table with their name. Last day to sign up is Friday, October 27th.
