Down Memory Lane with Scotty Rhodes

August 25, 2017 - The membership and guest of the Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society (TAGHS) were astounded, entertained and informed by Scotty Rhodes as he shared his remarkable photographic memory of the people, places and things he recalls from the days of his childhood in Timpson and the surrounding area. Going street by street, Scotty recalled the businesses where people gathered and shopped, as well as the people who ran the business.

Alzheimer’s Association – How to Prepare for Hurricane Harvey

August 25, 2017 - Disaster situations, such as a hurricane, can have a significant impact on everyone’s safety, but they can be especially upsetting and confusing for individuals with dementia.

Families and caregivers of persons with memory disorders need to know how to address the special needs of a person with Alzheimer’s during an emergency. In addition to normal hurricane preparation, the following emergency preparedness guidelines can assist families and caregivers coping with Alzheimer’s.

National Forest Closing Campgrounds, Trails as Hurricane Harvey Approaches

August 25, 2017 - As Hurricane Harvey approaches the Texas Gulf Coast, Forest Supervisor Eddie Taylor is closing all campgrounds and trails in the Davy Crockett, Angelina and Sabine National Forests.

Sam Houston National Forest sites were closed earlier in the week.

“With potentially high winds, possible tornados and heavy rainfall, the forest is not a safe place to be,” Taylor said. “Recreation areas and trails will remain closed until the storm has passed and our personnel have determined the roads and public areas are safe.”

County Attorney 'Bad Check' Warrant Roundup

August 23, 2017 - Shelby County Attorney Gary Rholes is having a Warrant Roundup for bad checks with warrants issued on them.

To make payment in person, the County Attorney's office is located at 518 Nacogdoches Street and business hours are 8am - 12noon and 1pm - 4pm weekdays.  Payment arrangements can be made, contact the County Attorney's office at 936-598-6100.

No credit cards and no personal checks.
