"Click It or Ticket" Campaign Saves More than 5,000 Lives

May 9, 2017 – This month marks the 15th anniversary of the “Click It or Ticket” campaign urging Texans to buckle up. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimates that since its inception 15 years ago, our life-saving campaign has resulted in 5,068 fewer traffic fatalities. However, from 2015 to 2016, deaths among people not wearing seat belts increased 9 percent.

May 8, 2017 - Shelby County Today was saddened to hear of the passing of Ed Roberts on Sunday, May 7, 2017. Besides the lives he touched personally and being a long time police officer with the Center Police Department, Roberts' life impacted many families throughout Shelby County for 36 years. Many may not have known him personally but they appreciated the spirit of the man who was the driving force of "Santa Ride's a Motorcycle." Below is a 2009 article written after an interview with Roberts. Prayers for his family and friends during this time.

May 8, 2017 - Sunday was the Fourth Sunday in Easter.  I am doing a series on the many stories that people have told in the past, stories that are being told, and stories yet to be told.  Today’s story comes from the John Gospel, where Jesus says he is the gate to the sheep pen.  Of course, most people don’t think of Jesus as a gate or a door.  We need to remember the words of John Wesley, who felt that when you try to take the Bible literally, you kill its meaning.  We should not take the Bible literally, but we should take it seriously.  Our pathways are the Christ’s ways.

U.S. Attorney’s Office, Lamar University Join Forces to Address Recidivism

May 8, 2017 BEAUMONT, Texas – Acting United States Attorney Brit Featherston announced today that as part of a federal reentry initiative, the United States Attorney’s Office is working with Lamar University in Beaumont in a new and innovative program designed to reduce recidivism by improving employment outcomes for ex-offenders in the Beaumont Division of the Eastern District of Texas.
