Wild, Scenic Rivers Public Meetings Postponed

September 5, 2017 - The National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is postponing meetings on Wild and Scenic River eligibility and Wildernesses due to widespread flooding caused by Hurricane Harvey.

The meetings, scheduled for Lufkin and San Augustine on Sept 12 and 14 have been postponed, according to Rob Potts, Natural Resources and Planning staff officer.

“Our main concern is with people recovering from the devastation of Hurricane Harvey,” he said. “As lives and homes are put back together, we will reschedule these meetings.”

Shelby County 4-H Recognizes Members, Volunteers

September 4, 2017 - At the recent 4-H Kick-off event, Shelby County Extension agents Lane Dunn and Jheri-Lynn McSwain presented youth members with the “I Dare You” award and county-level “Gold Star” award. The “I Dare You” awards were presented to Wesley Wages of Center 4-H Club, son of Bryan and Dee Wages, and Lance Holloway of Center 4-H Club, son of John Henry and Chelsea Holloway.

National Forests in Texas Camping Fees Waived for Those Displaced by Flooding

September 3, 2017 - The Southern Region of the USDA Forest Service is waiving fees and making campgrounds available for individuals displaced by the recent flooding in Texas and other states.

Like several areas along the Gulf Coast, many National Forests were impacted by the recent storm. Some of the region’s campgrounds are closed due to the flooding.

Vehicle Titling, Registration Requirements Suspended in Hurricane Harvey Disaster Counties

September 1, 2017 - Texas residents in counties impacted by Hurricane Harvey will not have to worry about vehicle titling and registration requirements for the next 45 days. Today Governor Greg Abbott suspended certain statutes related to the enforcement of title and registration laws in the 58 counties included in the state’s disaster declaration:

AG Paxton Warns Gas Stations Against Fraud in Wake of Hurricane

September 1, 2017 - Attorney General Ken Paxton issued a warning to gas stations against any attempt to take advantage of Texas consumers by fraudulent action in the wake of Hurricane Harvey. The Consumer Protection Division of the attorney general’s office received more than 500 complaints Thursday, many of which involve allegations of high fuel prices in Dallas, including amounts ranging from $6-$8 dollars per gallon.
