Texas Urges Health Precautions for Residents Affected by Hurricane Harvey

August 30, 2017 - The Texas Department of State Health Services is issuing the following health precautions for people experiencing flooding and power outages in Southeast Texas and beginning recovery from Hurricane Harvey along the middle Texas coast.

People should follow all local drinking water safety notices and throw out food that may have spoiled or been contaminated. Because of the risk of carbon monoxide poisoning, gasoline-powered generators should not be used indoors.

Commissioner Morath authorizes Missed School Day waivers for districts affected by Hurricane Harvey

August 30, 2017 Austin – Commissioner of Education Mike Morath announced Tuesday that school districts and charters within Gov. Greg Abbott’s 58-county disaster declaration for Hurricane Harvey can submit Missed School Day Waivers for any scheduled instructional days missed this week due to recent adverse weather conditions.

USDA Integrates Recalls Information into 'FoodKeeper' Application

August 30, 2017 Washington – The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) today announced new updates to its popular FoodKeeper application that will provide users with new information on food safety recalls. The app has been updated so users can choose to receive automatic notifications when food safety recalls are announced by USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

SCOM to Close Temporarily Due to Weather

August 29, 2017 - Due to the impending weather heading our way, Shelby County Outreach Ministries, Inc. will close at 1pm tomorrow (Aug. 30) and will be closed all day on Thursday (Aug. 31). Weather permitting, we will resume regular office hours on Friday from 9am to 2pm.
