Shelby County Attorney Warns Against Price Gouging

August 28, 2017 - Shelby County Attorney Gary Rholes has issued a warning against anyone price gouging during current hurricane Harvey conditions.

"Unfortunately, some businesses charge excessive prices during a tragedy," said County Attorney Gary Rholes. “This is not only unethical, it is also illegal.”

Rholes said the County Attorney’s office has pursued price gouging in the past and will not hesitate to do so again.

Panola College Volleyball Sweeps Weekend

August 28, 2017 - The Panola College Fillies opened their season at the Rose City Classic with a bang, taking down all 3 opponents in straight sets. The Fillies defeated North Central Texas College (25-21, 25-11, 25-13) in their first match of the season. Sophomore right side Kaitlyn Adams and sophomore outside Jaqueline da Silva paced the offense with 6 kills apiece. Sophomore and freshman middle blockers Barbara Sabino and Daphinie Correa each chipped in 5. Sophomore setter Cayman Sutton racked up 13 assists and freshman setter Molly Harris added 9 in her debut.

NWS Issues Flood Watch, Short-Term Forecast, Hazardous Weather Outlook

August 27, 2017 - The National Weather Service Shreveport, Louisiana (NWS) issued a Flash Flood Watch at 3:46 PM CDT Sunday, August 27, 2017. A Flash Flood Watch is in effect for Deep East Texas eastward over Toledo Bend Country and adjacent sections of Louisiana until 7 AM CDT Tuesday.

The Flood Watch area is Sabine, Cherokee, Nacogdoches, Shelby, Angelina, and San Augustine and includes the cities of Many, Zwolle, Pleasant Hill, Jacksonville, Rusk, Nacogdoches, Center, Lufkin, San Augustine, Hemphill, and Pineland.

Down Memory Lane with Scotty Rhodes

August 25, 2017 - The membership and guest of the Timpson Area Genealogy and Heritage Society (TAGHS) were astounded, entertained and informed by Scotty Rhodes as he shared his remarkable photographic memory of the people, places and things he recalls from the days of his childhood in Timpson and the surrounding area. Going street by street, Scotty recalled the businesses where people gathered and shopped, as well as the people who ran the business.
