SCV Capt. Jesse Amason Camp 282 Places Flags

April 19, 2017 - April is Confederate History Month and in honor of Shelby County Confederate Veterans, the Sons of Confederate Veterans Capt. Jesse Amason Camp #282, placed Confederate Flags designating the veterans service and burial. The veterans of the Corinth and Buena Vista cemeteries were chosen for the annual flagging tradition.

SCV members participating were Gene Hutto, Glenn Hartt, Jim Barrett and Roger Doyle.

Local Doctor Serves as Physician of the Day for 85th Texas Legislature

April 18, 2017 Austin, Texas - Keith Miller, MD, of Center, Texas, volunteered to serve as the Family Physician of the Day for the Texas Legislature on April 6. Dr. Miller is a member of the Texas Academy of Family Physicians, the state's largest specialty organization, which coordinates and directs the program. More than 2,500 family physicians have traveled to Austin during Legislative and Special Sessions to serve as the Physician of the Day since the program's inception in 1971.

In the last session of the Texas Legislature, a bill to totally legalize marijuana moved further in the process than anyone expected.

I want to express my opposition to the legalization of marijuana for recreation purposes.

April 17, 2017 - You can purchase certain emergency preparation supplies tax free during the 2017 Emergency Preparation Supplies Sales Tax Holiday. There is no limit on the number of qualifying items you can purchase, and you do not need to issue an exemption certificate to claim the exemption.

This year’s holiday begins at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, April 22, and ends at midnight on Monday, April 24.
