The Troubles of Tending to a Winter Pasture

August 23, 2016 - It is well known that feeding through the winter is the most expensive part of raising livestock.  Either we cut, rake and bale excess grass for the winter months, or we buy hay from those who do.  Regardless, stockmen then feed back the hay all through the winter months when summer pastures are not growing.

A winter pasture could be clovers, ryegrass, or small grains such as wheat, oat, or rye.  Winter pastures are planted in the fall and typically provide very high quality grazing during a time where poorer quality hay is fed.

This also included all customers on 96 South and County Roads south of Bob Evans Equipments located on HWY 96 in San Augustine, Texas. This was issued for safety precautions. We have corrected the problem and tested the water.

Harold Baty Thanks the Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department

August 23, 2016 - On Thursday, August 18th, at approximately 5:30 AM I was awakened by the Sheriff's Office that my Hay Barn was on fire. At that time, Chris Koltonski, Luke Matthews, Keith Wyndham, Duane Lout, Kevin Hudman and Darren Whiteside were already on the scene trying to distinguish the flames. The barn was a total loss, but I feel such a sense of security knowing that these men take their own time to help others who cannot help themselves.

August 23, 2016 – The United States District Court for the Western District of Texas today agreed with Attorney General Ken Paxton and denied a request by three University of Texas professors to block enforcement of Texas’ new campus carry law. The Court concluded that the professors were unlikely to prevail in their lawsuit and thus were not entitled to a preliminary injunction against enforcement of the law.

Back-To-School Food Safety Tips for Parents and Caregivers

August 18, 2016 - Back to school, back to the books, back in the saddle, or back in the car for those of us shuttling students to and from school. The new school year means its back to packing lunches and after school snacks for students, scouts, athletes, dancers, and all the other children who carry these items to and from home. One ‘back’ you do not want to reacquaint children with, however, is foodborne bacteria.
