August 10, 2016 - Texas has confirmed that an infant who recently died in Harris County had microcephaly linked to the Zika virus. The baby passed away shortly after birth and is the first Zika-related death reported in Texas.

During her pregnancy, the mother was in Latin America, where she was infected, and the baby acquired the infection in the womb. Recent test results confirmed the baby’s condition and link to Zika. The mother and baby are classified as travel-related cases, and there is no additional associated risk in Texas.

August 9, 2016 - The mosquito-transmitted Zika virus is a potential threat to the health of unborn babies in Texas and other states, and the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service has stepped up efforts  to educate the public on ways to protect themselves from this new menace, said agency entomologists.

LUFKIN – The BU 59/A&NR Railroad Bridge in Lufkin will move closer to completion this week as contractors begin to pave additional northbound lanes toward SL 287 and the BU 59 overpass.

August 4, 2016 - The East Texas Poulty Festival is highlighted by the 4-H/FFA Broiler show and Auction that will be held on October 08.  As 4-H and FFA members and families are beginning to get ready for their chickens, questions may come to mind.  How big to make my pen?  How many fans do I need?  When do I raise my feeders and waterers?  These questions and many more will be addressed at the Shelby County Broiler Show Workshop.
