July 27, 2016 - Each year, Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative joins eight other east Texas cooperatives in sponsoring the East Texas Rural Electric Youth Seminar (ETREYS). On June 27th – July 1st, approximately 120 students attended the camp at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, TX. This year, Deep East Texas was well represented by 10 students from the DETEC service area.

July 20, 2016 - Planning is underway for the 40th East Texas Poultry Festival presented by Farmers State Bank, which will take place October 6-8 on the historic downtown Center square, with co-chairmen, Jim Sawyer and Josh Payne, leading the steering committee. According to Polly McKissick Montemayor, Arts and Crafts Committee Chair, vendor applications are being accepted at the Shelby County Chamber office until Friday, August 12.
