August 1, 2016 – The Texas Transportation Commission last week awarded 68 new construction projects statewide totaling more than $359 million, with five located in the Lufkin District that total more than $10.5 million.
Newly approved projects for the Lufkin District are located in Angelina, Houston, Shelby and Polk counties. Project totals and project descriptions include:
August 1, 2016 - Thanks to some generous donations, the Stuttering Foundation has donated a new DVD, entitled Kids Who Stutter: Parents Speak, to 8,800 public libraries across the country.
In this 16 minute DVD, parents and speech-language experts talk about how to promote easier talking as they interact with their children. The professionals offer simple tips that parents can follow easily.
August 1, 2016 - Night work is scheduled in Angelina County for several nights that will have motorists planning an alternate route.
Maintenance crews will close Chestnut Drive at Timberland Drive for several nights, allowing contractors to repair joints in the roadway. Motorists are urged to choose alternate routes or be prepared for detours and possible delays.

July 30, 2016 (Kaiser Health News, By Susan Jaffe) -Only days after Judy Hanttula came home from the hospital after surgery last November, her doctor’s office called with bad news: Records showed that instead of traditional Medicare, she had a private Medicare Advantage plan, and her doctor and hospital were not in its network.
Neither the plan nor Medicare now would cover her medical costs. She owed $16,622.
