Paxton Issues Consumer Alert Warning Texans of Potential Scams Following Nationwide CrowdStrike Outage

July 20, 2024 – Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton warned Texans of potential scams following the widespread CrowdStrike service outage.

Texans should be aware that bad actors can use cybersecurity incidents to take advantage of consumers. By following certain steps, the public can significantly decrease their likelihood of falling prey to a scam that could compromise personal data privacy and devices.

Producers Have Until August 1 to Submit FSA County Committee Nominations

July 18, 2024 – Farmers and ranchers have until August 1, 2024, to nominate candidates to serve on the Angelina-Nacogdoches-Trinity-San Augustine-Shelby County Farm Service Agency (FSA) Committee. The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) accepts nominations each year in certain Local Administrative Areas (LAAs) for individuals to serve on these locally led committees.

DETCOG Board to Hold July Meeting in Hemphill

July 18, 2024 - Deep East Texas Council of Governments (DETCOG) Board of Directors will hold their regular monthly meeting Thursday, July 25, 2024, at First Baptist Church Life Center at 301 Mann Street in Hemphill, Texas. A Luncheon will be served at noon, and the Board meeting will be held immediately following lunch.
 
Welcoming members and guests to Sabine County will be Sabine County Judge Daryl Melton and Sabine County Commissioners Brent Cox, Keith Nabours, Stanley Jacks, and James Lowe.

July 18, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, July 18.

Don't look now, East Texas, but so far, we're having a relatively wet and cool summer. We're past the halfway point and haven't gotten near triple digits yet. That might not qualify as cool in most parts of the country, but it's practically balmy around here. And the grass is still green. Remember how everything turned a lovely shade of brown during last year's long, hot, dry summer?

So, we count our blessings. And refresh out souls with some refreshing scripture verses.

Governor Abbott Announces Federal Approval for SNAP Hot Foods Purchases in 36 Counties

July 17, 2024 -  Governor Greg Abbott announced today that the Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) has received federal approval to allow Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) recipients in 36 counties impacted by Hurricane Beryl to purchase hot foods and ready-to-eat meals with their benefits.
