David’s Daily Devotion for July 31

July 31, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, July 31.

On a Sunday evening in the summer of 1988, I had to miss the Sunday night service at my church in Arlington, Texas. I've always enjoyed Sunday night services. It's a more casual atmosphere than Sunday morning, and you can include audience participation features like testimonies and song requests. But on that particular Sunday night, July 31, 1988, my church somehow made it through the evening service without me - imagine that. I was at a hospital in Fort Worth for the birth of my firstborn child.

July 30, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Tuesday, July 30.

I'm a collector. I've been collecting for over 40 years. My list of collections includes 35 different areas of interest and over 5,000 individual items. Over the past few years, I've managed to slow down the pace of my collecting. This is primarily because I would like to stay married. But if my eye should fall upon a particularly interesting item... well, I'm not making any promises.

“Adam's Off Ox” by Neal Murphy

July 29, 2024 - Many of you have no doubt heard a person say that he didn’t know someone else from Adam’s off ox, but you may not have stopped to consider the peculiar aptness of this folk expression. I recall my grandparents and parents would use the phrase quite often but I never thought to delve into what the words truly meant. What is an “off ox”, and who was Adam? What did this have to do with not knowing somebody?

Please don’t drive through it like Hell.” We ate lunch at the Taqueria Mexican Restaurant… then drove to Hondo Creek. It was a gorgeous day… a blue sky… 70 degrees… and the water was crystal clear.
