Governor Abbott, TxDOT Announce Record $148 Billion Transportation Investment

August 27, 2024 – Governor Greg Abbott today announced a record $148 billion in total investment for Texas’ transportation infrastructure. This investment includes the unanimous adoption of the more than $104 billion 10-year transportation plan by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) to improve safety, address congestion and connectivity, and preserve roadways for Texas drivers. It also includes over $43 billion for development and routine maintenance. This is a $5.6 billion increase in total investment from the previous year.

A Tale of Two Wilderness Areas: How Prescribed Fire Can Make a Difference

August 27, 2024 — In the summer of 2023, East Texas experienced historic wildfire activity, due to drought conditions and record-breaking high temperatures. Fire management professionals on the National Forests and Grasslands in Texas responded to 58 wildfires in a two-month period.  

Two wilderness areas on the Angelina Sabine Ranger District, the Upland Island Wilderness and Indian Mounds Wilderness areas, were threatened by wildfires. The outcomes in these two areas were not the same — and is likely prescribed fire made the difference.

August 26, 2024 - Our daughter, Kay, married in 1979 while in college at Liberty, Missouri. Her new husband, Marti, was also a college student. Being “in-laws” was a new role for my wife and me, and we wanted to get off to a good start to impress our new son-in-law. After the wedding the bride and groom left for their honeymoon. We were left with the task of transporting all the wedding gifts from the church to their new apartment approximately twenty-five miles away. This necessitated our renting a U-Haul trailer to accomplish this task.

August 22, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, August 22.

My youngest granddaughter had a big day this week, a big milestone in her young life - she took her first steps! She's 16 months old, a little past the point when most kids start walking, and we were starting to wonder. My theory is that she's been able to walk for some time now, she just chose not to. And the reason she made that choice is that she is a champion crawler. The girl can really scoot! So, why risk being on two feet when you're so good at being on all fours.
