David's Daily Devotion for September 12

September 12, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Thursday, September 12.

Last night, members of the First Baptist Center choir visited a home bound woman in our community. Once a month, instead of meeting for our regular mid-week rehearsal, we leave the church to go out and sing for someone who is no longer able to leave their house and come to church. This ministry has been going on for a year and a half and has been such a blessing to our singers.

September 11, 2024 - Good Morning! It's Wednesday, September 11.

I've always been a reader. I can remember, when I was a kid, staying up after my bedtime, reading under the blanket with a flashlight. That's probably why I had to start wearing glasses in 3rd grade. In my old age I find myself reading more and more. Being somewhat of a solitary soul, I have to admit that I sometimes prefer the company of a good book to the company of people. And so, today, I'm thinking about famous last lines from famous books. Here's a few of my favorites.

“The Blue Roof” by Neal Murphy

September 10, 2024 - In the late 1940s my dad installed a new composition roof on our house. For some reason he selected a dark blue color instead of the usual brown. Little did he know at the time that this decision may have saved a life.

I was in elementary school around 1944 and our family was eating breakfast that morning. Dad would be going to his job at the courthouse and Mom to her beauty shop. They would drop me off at the grammar school for a day of education. Just a routine day before us.

TxDOT Prepares for Impacts of Storm in East Texas

September 10, 2024 – As Tropical Storm Francine approaches the Texas/Louisiana Gulf Coast, TxDOT wants motorists to be prepared for possible heavy rainfall that could impact East Texas. Francine is expected to grow to Hurricane strength by landfall on Wednesday, but rain is expected on Wednesday in the Lufkin District ahead of the storm’s landfall.

Lufkin District crews are preparing and will monitor roadways, ditches, and other areas prone to flooding throughout the day on Wednesday and into Thursday.
