Texas Celebrates National Hunting and Fishing Day Sept. 28

September 24, 2024 – The Texas Parks and Wildlife Department (TPWD) asks Texans to invite their friends and family into the outdoors to celebrate National Hunting and Fishing Day (NHF) on Saturday, September 28.

This annual holiday, celebrated on the fourth Saturday of September, recognizes hunters and anglers for their contributions to wildlife and conservation.

September 24, 2024 - The Center High School Alumni Association is proud to announce the 2024 Hall of Honor recipients are Janette Searcy Wittmann, Class of 1950; Frank E Parker, Jr., Class of 1974; and Fannie Watson, Class of 1948 (Tenaha High School) with 47 years of service with Center ISD. DSHS Rallies Support for the Fight Against Congenital Syphilis

Testing and treatment key to turning the tide

September 18, 2024 - The Texas Department of State Health Services is putting a statewide focus on congenital syphilis, a disease that has profound effects on hundreds of babies in Texas each year. Congenital syphilis cases rose from 166 in 2017 to 922 in 2022, the most recent year with final data, tracking with an increase in syphilis among adults. Texas accounted for 25 percent of the congenital syphilis cases in the United States in 2022 compared with roughly 10 percent of total births.
