DPS Locates, Arrests Driver in Hit-and-Run Involving 4-Year-Old Child

September 5, 2022 - As a result of the continued investigation, the vehicle and driver involved in this crash was located in Center (Shelby County).

The driver has been identified as 85-year-old Edward Mora from Center. Mora was driving a 2009 Chevrolet pickup at the time of the crash.

Mora was transported and booked into the Shelby County Jail for fail to stop and render aid with serious bodily injury, a third degree felony.

This is an on-going investigation. No additional information is available at this time.

N.E.W. Water System Rescinds Boil Water Notice

The water on N.E.W. WSC no longer requires boiling.

September 4, 2022 - On August 30, 2022, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the N.E.W. Water Supply, #2030034, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system, the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Joaquin VFD Reports 3 Medical Emergency Calls Last Week

August 29, 2022 - The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department ended the last full week of August with 3 total calls, all of which pertaining to medical emergencies.

The first call came in on Monday, August 22nd for a lift assist on Carroll Street to help a patient back into their home after being returned from the hospital.
