Car Takes Wrong Turn into Creek

April 3, 2016 - Emergency personnel were dispatched to a single-vehicle crash on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 when a vehicle took a wrong turn into a creek.

US 96 Shutdown Due to Crash Involving Diesel Truck

Update 11:53pm - A hazard material management team is finishing with cleaning up the diesel spill. The tanker truck has been uprighted and emergency responders are working to clear crash debri off the roadway. The fire department is still assisting with traffic. The majority of the roadway is back open to traffic. Please continue to use caution if traveling through the area.

Jury Finds Vickers Guilty on Almost All Charges (Update)

Jury Summons Cancelled for Monday, April 4th

April 1, 2016 - According to Shelby County District Clerk Lori Oliver, the jury that has been summoned for Monday, April 4, 2016 for the 123rd District Court, Honorable Charles "Brick" Dickerson, presiding has been cancelled due to the scheduled cases being resolved or passed.

Anyone receiving a summons for that day is released from Jury service until they receive a future summons.

April 1, 2016 - As a result of recent flooding, an Individual Assistance Joint Preliminary Damage Assessment was recently performed in Shelby County by a FEMA and Texas Health & Human Services Commission representative. This damage assessment is for potential add-on to the federal declaration DR-4266-TX.

$5.7 Million Project for Shelby County Approved in Lufkin District

April 1, 2016 LUFKIN – Texas Department of Transportation commissioners on Thursday approved 51 new construction projects for the state that total more than $161.7 million, with two projects located in the Lufkin District.

New construction projects that total more than $6.4 million were approved for Angelina and Shelby counties. The projects are designed to TxDOT safety standards and once completed will provide better maneuverability.

Vickers Trial Continues with Alleged Victim Returning to the Witness Stand

March 31, 2016 - A Shelby County Jury began the arduous task of participating in the trial of Johanna Grace Vickers on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 following a two-day selection process from a jury pool originally consisting of 59 candidates. The first day of trial ended with the alleged victim in the case testifying and being scheduled to return the following morning.
