June 7, 2018 - Jesus Christ, the Word of God become flesh and blood -

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” (john 1:1)

Jesus Christ, the Son of God and the Word of God from the beginning.

He was in the beginning with God.” (John 1:2)

There is no time when the Lord Jesus was not, he was from the beginning with the Father.

All things were made through him, and without him was not any thing made that was made.” (John 1:3)

All things from the beginning of time have revolved around the Lord Jesus Christ the only begotten Son of God.

And the Word of God became flesh - “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.” (John 1:14)

So Jesus said; “If you abide in my Word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (John 8:31-32)

Only through his word can we find truth, peace and life; the life that lasts for eternity, the life given by the light of the world made manifest in the person of the lord Jesus Christ.

“In him was life, and the life was the light of men.” (John 1:4)

Let us look at two scriptures that tell us of the light of the world that has come to us in the form of the Lord Jesus Christ.

“Your sun shall no more go down, nor your moon withdraw itself; for the Lord will be your everlasting light, and your days of mourning shall be ended.” (Isaiah 60:20)

The time of eternity spent in heaven basking in the light of the Father and of the Son.

“And Jesus spoke to them saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

Once one accepts the Lord Jesus as Lord and Master he shall never again walk in darkness but his path shall be lighted by the Lord day and night. Only through submission to the Lord can one find the blessings of light, the blessing of eternal life gained through Christ.

Jesus tells us that all people are either “of God or of the devil” and he explains how one knows who he is following.

“Of God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and I am here. I came not of my own accord, but he sent me.” (John 8:42)

To those who cannot bear to hear his word he says; “You are of your father the devil, and your will is to do your father’s desires.” (John 8:44)

Whoever is of God hears the words of God. The reason why you do not hear them is that you are not of God.” (John 8:47)

And so my prayer, my hope for all people is that all will hear the words of God. That all will submit to his will and wishes and accept the Son of God as Lord and Master this day. We have no guarantee of tomorrow, only of today, make today the day that you become “of God” and no longer “of the devil.” Ask Jesus for forgiveness today and receive the blessings of eternal life with him, forever…

June 4, 2018 - Sunday was the 9th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Summer is fast approaching, with the temperatures already in the high 90s. I hope this isn’t a warning that this is going to be an exceptionally hot summer! Just before I left for Sunday School it rained a little bit. It didn’t rain much or for long, but it was nice anyway.

In the Epistle lesson for today from 2 Corinthians 4: 1-12, Paul compares us to common red clay jars that were used to transport wine from the vineyards to the sellers and then the buyers. The clay jars were just ordinary, but what they carried was important. We are ordinary clay jars that carry within us the good news of Jesus. In my sermon I spoke about the need to reexamine those “red letter” words of Jesus to rediscover what was on Jesus’ mind when he spoke to the multitudes and what he thought was important.

We started a new quarter in Sunday School, which means a new author. The title of today’s lesson was “Justice and Sabbath Laws.” Gene read the scripture from Matthew 12: 1-14 which highlighted the disagreement between groups of Pharisees and Jesus and his disciples about working on the Sabbath. Jesus probably didn’t convince any of his opponents that day when he reminded them that people were not created for the Sabbath but the Sabbath was created for people. But as usual, his wisdom reverberates across the centuries.

We are glad to have Gene and Joy back from their European cruise and to hear some of the exciting things they did and saw. They said they had a great time, but—in the seemingly universal human sentiment—they are glad to be back home.

“Whoever you are, in whatever faith you were born, whatever creed you profess; if you come to this house to find God you are welcome here.” Paxton United Methodist Church is an inviting church that takes to heart the idea of “Open Doors, Open Hearts, Open Minds.” Sunday School starts at 9:30 and Worship begins at 10:00. Our email address is paxtonumc@yahoo.com. If you would like the weekly email newsletter about Paxton Methodist you can send me your email address to the Paxton email address and I will add you to the list. Godspeed.
