June 3, 2019 - At 9:30 pm Sunday evening, The Joaquin Volunteer Fire Department, along with Desoto Fire District #1, was dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 500 block of FM 3174.
First arriving units found heavy fire showing from the front and back of a double wide mobile home.
It took about 15 minutes for crews to make a knockdown on the blaze, but units remained on scene for several hours searching for and extinguishing hot spots.
June 3, 2019 - A Presidential Proclamation has been issued that flags should be flown at half staff until sunset, tomorrow, June 4, 2019 in honor of the Virginia Beach, Virginia shooting victims.

400 tornadoes and flooding have been reported by the news media across our nation in the last two weeks!
Hopefully, this does not mean we will have more hurricanes than normal.

May 31, 2019 - FM 414 was the scene of a single-vehicle rollover crash Friday, May 31, 2019.
First responders were dispatched to the location around 9:15am as occupants of the vehicle remained trapped inside. While Center Fire Department firemen were en-route. According to witnesses on scene, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) State Trooper Taylor Buster was able to break the rear window and free those inside.
According to Texas DPS State Trooper Taylor Buster, a black 2006 Chevrolet Tahoe driven by Karen Walters, 21, of Center and a 2-year-old passenger was westbound on FM 414 when she swerved to miss a dog in the roadway.
The Tahoe traveled off the road to the right and rolled several times before coming to rest on its passenger side nextr to a tree.
An ambulance also responded to the scene; however, no injuries were reported resulting from the crash.
No citations were issued at the time of the incident.
May 30, 2019 - The Jury that was summoned for Monday, June 3, 2019, for the 273rd District Court, Honorable James A. Payne, Jr. presiding, has been cancelled.
All cases scheduled have been resolved or passed.
Anyone receiving a jury summons for this day is released until the receive a future summons.

May 30, 2019 - (Update): Commissioner Bellmyer announces as of 4:17pm, Thursday CR 4020 has been re-opened for general use.
May 30, 2019 - Precinct 4 Commissioner Tom Bellmyer reports the bridge on CR 4020 which is approximately 1.25 miles off of Hwy 87 is temporarily closed for repairs. The bridge is broke down and repairs are currently being made.
Bellmyer said he hopes to have repairs completed and the bridge open by this Saturday.
Anyone located on the south side of the bridge can have access by detouring using CR 4088 which is off of FM 415.
May 30, 2019 - The West Shelby Volunteer Fire Department responded to a hay roll on fire in a hay meadow Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at 6:26pm on County Road 1171 with a tanker truck and two grass trucks.
A faulty bearing on the baler was the cause of the fire. Dustin Hughes contained the fire until the fire department arrived and then he used the forks on the tractor to unroll the hay while the fire department saturated the hay with water. Frankie Anthony, a neighbor near the property, finished rolling the remaining hay with his baler.
The fire department finished and was back in service at 7:20pm.
May 29, 2019 - The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office is warning area residents of a scam that is circulating in our area. This scam is referred to as the “Grandparent Scam.”
The caller claims to be a relative (usually a granddaughter or grandson) and claims that they are in jail. The caller request that they contact a person at a certain number or tells them that a bondsman will be contacting them in a few minutes and ask for help in getting out of jail. The victim will then either receive a phone call or told to call a number given to them and speak to a person claiming to be a bondsman. This “bondsman” is a fake and will usually ask for a credit card number, or a pre-paid credit card such as a Green-DOT card, etc.,
Do Not Give The Caller Any Information. This is a scam. Find out what jail the family member is supposedly being held and call to verify whether they are there or not. Always meet a bondsman at their office or at the jail where you are bonding the person out.

May 28, 2019 - The water on San Augustine Rural WSC no longer requires boiling.
On May 23, 2019, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality required the San Augustine Rural Public Water System, #2030007, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals or employees that due to conditions which occurred recently in the public water system the water from this public water system was required to be boiled prior use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.
San Augustine Rural Water has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by this public water system used for drinking water or human consumption purposes and has provided TCEQ with laboratory test results that indicate that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use as of May 28, 2019.
