March 12, 2018 - A high-speed pursuit started around 2pm Monday, March 12, 2018 after a female fled Wal-Mart in Center and continued for over 30 miles before coming to an end in Louisiana.
The Center Police Department followed the suspect which was driving a black Chevy Impala from Wal-Mart onto US 96 North at speeds over 100 mph. Department of Public Safety (DPS) State Troopers soon joined the chase in an attempt to stop the vehicle.
Road spikes were deployed outside of Tenaha on US 96 where the speed limit changes to 55; however, the Impala entered oncoming traffic lanes to avoid the spikes. The vehicle then turned onto US 84 traveling east in the direction of Joaquin. Spike strips were again deployed by a DPS Trooper near the Crystal Lake area where the suspect was unable to avoid contact and both front tires were hit slowing down the Impala.
The vehicle, with law enforcement following, turned at the US 84 and SH 7 intersection in the direction of Louisiana, east on US 84. After crossing the Logansport bridge around 2:17pm, DeSoto Parish officers joined the pursuit which finally ended east of Stanley on US 84 almost to Mansfield.
The driver, Iesha Hubbard, age 22, was taken into custody by DeSoto Parish officers and booked into the DeSoto Parish Jail for aggravated flight from officer (Misdemeanor) and criminal damage to property-simple (Misdemeanor) with a status of not bondable.
Pending charges in Shelby County are unknown at this time.

March 12, 2018 – Emergency responders were dispatched to a fatality crash on SH 87 South near Patroon Grocery on Friday morning, March 10, 2018.
According to a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) press release, Troopers investigated a one-vehicle crash on SH 87 approximately eight miles South of Shelbyville. The preliminary crash investigation indicates at about 7am a 2003 Ford pickup was traveling north on SH 87 when the truck drove off the roadway to the right then reportedly slid back across the roadway and into a creek on the west side of the road.

The driver of the Ford is identified as Daran Oneill Jr., 31, from Lake Charles, Louisiana. Oneill was pronounced deceased at the scene by Shelby County Justice of the Peace PCT 2, Marla Denby.
Shelbyville Volunteer Fire Department and Center Fire Department were both dispatched to the scene to assist with traffic control and extrication while DPS Troopers measured and investigated the crash.

Hughes Wrecker assisted with removing the pickup from the creek and David Shield towed the wreckage from the site. ACE EMS also responsed to assist if needed. Watson and Sons Funeral Home transported Oneill, Jr. from the scene.
DPS State Trooper Taylor Buster investigated the wreck and was assisted by State Troopers Jonathan Stinson, Brent Murray, Keith Jones, and Sean Smith. No additional information is available at this time.




March 12, 2018 - On March 8, 2018, at approximately 7pm the Tenaha Police Department executed a search warrant on a residence located on the 400 block of Pine Street in Tenaha, Texas following an ongoing narcotics investigation. Subsequent, to the service of this search warrant, law enforcement officers located and seized illegal narcotics from the occupants located within the residence. In addition to packaging materials and paraphernalia used to facilitate the sale of narcotics, a quantity of Hydrocodone and Xanax pills, and US currency, believed to be the proceeds of illicit drug sales, were also seized.
As a result of this investigation, Rodolfo Gray, 28 years of age, was taken into custody without incident and charged with the following offense - Manufacturing Delivering Controlled Substance PG 1>=1G<4G 481.112(C) HSC F1 enhanced.
The Tenaha Police Department would like to give a special thanks to the Center Police Department and PCT 4 Constables Office for their assistance with this case and their valiant efforts in attempts to rid the sale, use, or manufacturing of illegal narcotics.

As a result, District Judge LeAnn Kay Rafferty ordered each defendant’s bond be forfeited and that a capias issue for the arrest of each defendant. Each defendant must immediately contact the Court Manager, Karen Warr, 936-598-9928 to schedule a court appearance.
March 8, 2018 - On March 6, deputies with the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO) responded to a report of a hostage situation on County Road 2798 in Shelbyville.
The preliminary investigation indicates SCSO deputies responded to the residence of the reported hostage situation at approximately 10:04 p.m.
A male suspect reportedly exited the residence displaying a firearm and was shot by law enforcement after the suspect refused to comply with verbal commands to drop the weapon. The suspect, Louis Troy Risinger, 70, was pronounced deceased at the scene by a Shelby County Justice of the Peace.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) Texas Rangers were notified and are assisting with the investigation.
This incident remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
***Update*** Election results are all in and three county races are yet to be decided. There will be two run-off races in the County due to no candidate in each race receiving over 50% of the vote. In the Shelby County Commissioner Pct 4 race, incumbent Bradley Allen (48.71%) and opponent Tom Bellmyer (32.88%) will have to wait until the May 22, 2018 for the Primary Runoff Election. The second race to be pushed into a runoff is the race for the Justice of the Peace Pct 1 position. Incumbent Melissa Crouch received 43.52% of the votes and opponent Randy Robertson received 29.32% of the votes.
The Justice of the Peace Pct 4 race won't be decided until the November 2018 Election day when Jackie Kirkwood (REP) will be on the same ballot with Jenny L. Hicks (DEM) which was the only race on the County level to have both Democratic and Republican candidates.
March 6, 2018 - Election day voting time is over and ballots are being counted as boxes from election polling locations are coming in. All local elections will be decided during the March Primary as the majority of candidates filed with the Republican party except for one. Only the race for Justice of the Peace PCT 4 had a Democratic candidate resulting in their matchup being in November.

March 2, 2018 - On March 1, 2018 at approximately 11:55 p.m., Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Deputies were dispatched to a residence on CR 1012 in Center in reference to an assault.
Once on scene, deputies made contact with a white female who stated her husband, identified as George Randall Gilchrist, 32, of Center, arrived home at approximately 10:30 p.m. intoxicated.
The female stated an argument ensued between the two which resulted in her being assaulted. Deputies searched the residence and were unable to locate Gilchrist.
On March 2, warrants were issued for Gilchrist and he was arrested at a residence on CR 1005.
Gilchrist was book into the Shelby County Jail and charged with Abandoning/Endangering a Child (SJF); Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon (F-2); Assault Family Violence Impeding Breath/Circulation (F-3); Unlawful Restraint (F-3); Terroristic Threat of Family/Household (M-A); InterfereW/Emergency Call (M-A); and Deadly Conduct (M-A).

February 28, 2018 - Update - 6:46pm: Loop 500 in Shelby County is now open to traffic following an earlier HazMat spill. All lanes have been cleared and are open. Drive safely.
February 28, 2018 - ALERT: SL 500 from US 96 to SH 7 East in Shelby County is closed after a hazardous spill. Also, cleanup is ongoing on US 96 and SH 7 East at the intersections near the loop. Cleanup could take most of the day. Avoid the area and prepare for delays as crews clear these areas.
