Myrle Laverne Thrasher Childers, 97, of Dallas, Texas, passed away Friday, February 16, 2018.
Graveside services will be held in Center, Texas at the Oaklawn Memorial Park Cemetery at 2 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2018.
Myrle, daughter of Tom and Maggie Thrasher, was born March 26, 1920, in De Queen, Arkansas. She was a member of the 1st Marching Band in Huntsville, Texas. She retired from Magic Gas Company in Center, Texas after a 30 year career as owner/manager.
Additionally, she pursued a personal lifetime career in finance, investments, real estate, and ranching. She was a member of the Park Cities First Baptist Church and the Cochran Sunday School Class in Dallas, Texas, and was 50+ year member of the Center Chapter # 348 District 4 Section 1 of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Myrle’s survivors include:

Numerous nieces, nephews, and many longtime friends.

Ruby Lee Wiley Hammers, 103, of Shreveport, Louisiana, formerly of Timpson, Texas, passed away on February 14, 2018 in Shreveport. She was born on September 1, 1914 in Slocum, Alabama to Robert Mason Wiley and Annie Wingate Riley. Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home with Bro. Roy Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpson, Texas. A visitation will be held prior to service time from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 18, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home.
Ruby spent the majority of her life living in Timpson, Texas. She met Fred Hammers, a local farmer in Timpson who won her heart and the two were married on December 23, 1932. Fred and Ruby were one of the hardest working couples around and for 43 years, they faithfully stood by one another until Fred’s passing. After Fred’s death, she did what was necessary to continue the family farm. No matter what would arise, Ruby always found a way to survive and made a way for her family. She sold eggs, churned butter to sell, and even sold milk from her cows. She worked the land gardening and would can and sell all that came from her hardworking hands.
While her hands were calloused from her daily tasks, her heart was soft and filled with compassion. Ruby was the ultimate caregiver. She was willing to lend a helping hand to her neighbor and made sure her home was filled with laughter and love. Some of the fondest memories were made at Easter each year when Ruby would host her family reunion and they celebrated with their annual Easter Egg Hunt. Ruby enjoyed sewing, working and she most especially liked working with her cows. She loved the Lord above all and took great pride in being a charter member of Heritage Missionary Baptist Church.
Ruby is survived by her son, Donald Wayne Hammers of Shreveport; daughters, Frances Livingston of Shreveport and Bessie Trahan of Shreveport; twelve grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Hammers; parents, R.M. and Annie Wiley; son, Frank Hammers and daughter Annie Freibaur.
Pallbearers will be Don Hammers, Cecil Johnson, Rodney Hammers, Wayne Nipp and Brett Burke.

Thomas Earl Williams (Sonny, as called by his family) was born January 14, 1936 to Thomas and Louella Lane Williams. He was their first son and the 5th of 16 children. He was born in Center, Texas in the community of Flat Fork. He passed away February 11, 2018.
His early education was in Jericho, Texas. He proudly graduated from C. H. Daniels High School in 1953.
After high school, Thomas began working at Atlas Plywood in Center, Texas. Having a quest for a better life, he moved to Amarillo, Texas where he began working at Dock Coffey Pontiac. It didn’t take Thomas very long to realize that an important part of his life was missing. So, in 1955, he returned home and married the love of his life, Vera McCoy. He resumed work at the same plywood company. His family expanded to include five daughters and finally, a son. In addition to working at what was now E. L. Bruce Company, he worked at 1st National Bank in the evenings and spent most weekends cooking and catering. He also opened McCoy's Drive Inn where he sold his famous bar-b-cue.
Thomas still yearned for a better life for himself and his family. In 1967, the family relocated to Dallas, Texas. He began working at Merchants Freight Lines as a delivery driver. He worked there for 16 years. He then attended real estate school, received his license, and began working at Century 21 Dean Miles Realty. Upon receiving his broker's license in 1991, he opened the doors of his second business, Fair Deal Realty, which was later, changed to Thomas Williams and Associates.
In 2013, Thomas was ordained as a deacon at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church where he has been a faithful member. In his spare time, he enjoyed fishing and taking flying lessons.
He was preceded in death by his grandson; Hubert Beasley, Jr.; parents Thomas and Louella Lane Williams; brothers; J.D. Lane and Prentice Williams sisters; Bertha Williams, Willie Mae Williams, Odell Williams, Mozell Williams Suell, Winnie Williams Morris, Ruby Williams Suell, and Ella McBride Williams.

Tommie was one of eight children born to Carlos Hancock and Lucille Dorsey Hancock of the Rose Hill Community on November 27, 1929. Surviving brothers include Charles (Chuck) Hancock of Nacogdoches, Jim Hancock and wife Sophia of Lufkin, Al (Bud) Hancock and wife Betty of Garrison and George Hancock and wife Laura of Lufkin. Surviving sisters are Frances Williams and husband Charles of Center, Patricia Pratt and husband Buddy of San Augustine, and one sister in law, JoAnn Hancock of Gary.
Tommie spoke often and most fondly of the life and the love she shared with her siblings and parents while growing up on the farm.
Tommie is preceded in death by husband Lem H. Hudson, brother, Calvin Hancock, sister in law Mavis Hancock, and two granddaughters, Brandi Edwards and Amy Middlebrook.
Serving as pallbearers are Chris Hancock, Kirk Yarbrough, Kraig Yarbrough, Andrew Worsham, Jason Samford, Turner Edwards, Nathan Hunnicutt, and Brian Nolan.
Much appreciation is expressed to the Garrison Nursing Home, Tommie’s home for ten years, with much love extended to their residents, whom Tommie loved dearly.
Internment will be in the Corinth Cemetery, Timpson, Texas.

De Ivory Lacy Sampson, 93, resident of Dallas, Texas, died February 11, 2018. She is survived by her children, Clifford, DeGloria, DeMetris, DeNise, De Iva, and many relatives and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Perry Sampson; parents, Marie and Sam Lacy; sister, Cleottice Flenoil; and brother-in-law, Johnie Flenoil.
She was born in Tyler, Texas and graduated from Texas College with a double major in mathematics and elementary education. She later earned a Master’s degree in mathematics from Stephen F. Austin State University.
Mrs. Sampson lived in Center, Texas, where she taught school in the Center Independent School District for 35 years, where she taught algebra, geometry, physics, biology, trigonometry, and coached UIL number sense and slide rule teams. While living in Center, Mrs. Sampson was an active member of Bright Morning Star Baptist Church and upon moving to Dallas, Texas, united with Greater Community First Baptist Church.

Wilfred H. Harris, 87, of Timpson, passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 in Timpson. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Woodlawn Cemetery in Timpson, Texas with Bishop Neal Cox and Dennis Cox, officiating. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, February 14, 2018 from 6:00-8:00pm at Taylor Funeral Home.
Wilfred H. Harris was born on June 19, 1930 to William and Meriam Beckham Harris in Garrison, Texas. He graduated Garrison High School and went into the Air Force in 1951, where he served 8 years. He then attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where he attained an Ag Degree. He then worked as a loan officer for Production Credit for 9 years. He then returned home to raise cattle and kids. He spent many years working hard at custom bailing square hay bales with his wife, Mary Lynn. When the rolled hay balers came out, he was one of the first to offer rolled hay to his customers.
Wilfred was also a master welder and could build anything with pipe & steel and helped others learn the welding trade. He was also a carpenter and he and his uncle Junie Harris worked together to build the house that he and his wife, Mary, lived in at the time of his passing, for the past 43 years.
Wilfred was always a fun-loving prankster, who would bring a turtle into the house and hide It under a pillow in the bed, knowing that Mary Lynn would find it when she made the beds. He would take all his kids and nieces and nephews frog gigging and shut the light off and take off running in the dark, hollering “Watch out for that snake!” It was all in fun.
Wilfred joined the LDS Church in 1971. He held several callings in his church. Demple tells us that at about 15 years old, Wilfred would bring home baby animals like a rabbit, that grew up and would stand on it’s hind legs to be fed from the table. He also brought home a baby coon that we gave to his coon hound to raise with her pups. He said she would let it nurse right beside her pups and after it was a grown coon, when they would hunt, that coon hound would not hurt the coon she raised!
Wilfred caught all kinds of baby animals and brought them home to his kids, a skunk, a coon, an opossum, and even a baby armadillo at one point.

Julian Rock “J.R.” Lemoine, 83, of Sardis, TX died on February 12th due to complications following a car accident. J.R. was a tinkerer, cigar-smoker, Dallas Cowboys fan, John Wayne devotee, and proud patriarch of the Lemoine brood. His family gathered around him in love and preparation, but as a true Christian, his spirit never flagged, bolstered in the knowledge that death is not final in Christ.
J.R. will be remembered as the father who led songs as Music Director at Sardis Missionary Baptist when his children were little, and a Papaw who always made sure to start holiday meals with a prayer, and the man who ended Christmas Eve with a celebratory boom of fireworks. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Lemoine and his children, Lisa Christian, Marty Lemoine, Tammy Lemoine, and Joey Lemoine. Twelve grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren carry on J.R.’s legacy.
J.R.’s life was storied and full. Born on October 15, 1934 in Cloutierville, LA to Joseph and Isabel Lemoine, J.R. was the fourth of six siblings. At the age of seven, his mother died and through a series of events, J.R. was taken in as the foster child of Tom and Ruby Hollis. The Hollises loved and cared for J.R. as their very own and he was their “Baby” as long as they lived. Under their care, J.R. graduated from Shelbyville High School as an all-around athlete—the quarterback that helped the Dragons make it to the Texas State Semi-Finals. From there, J.R. stepped into a role at Bruce Hardwood Floors where he would work and rise in authority over a 43-year career. In all that time, J.R. always made time to tinker, smoke a cigar, and show up to every event at which his children performed.
J.R. was a man of quiet strength and steady faith. He was capable with a tool, loyal in his devotion, and generous with his possessions.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 15 at Sardis Cemetery with Bro. Chuck Horton officiating. Visitation will be held from 12:00 -1:30 p.m. at Magnum Funeral Home. Memorial donations may be sent to Sardis Cemetery: 6034 FM 414; Center, TX 75935.

Charlotte L King, age 74, of Dayton Texas, passed away on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at her residence. She was born on April 15, 1943 in Shelby County, Texas to parents Paul and Dorothy Barron. She was a graduate of Joaquin High School.
Graveside services for Mrs. King will be 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 15, 2018 at Magnolia Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends at 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. at Pace-Stancil Funeral Home before the service on Thursday.
Mrs. King was a longtime resident of Dayton. She enjoyed being outdoors doing yard work, gardening and tending her plants. She also enjoyed fishing and traveling. Most of all she loved her family and will be missed by all that knew her.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Dorothy Barron, and sister, Linda Barron Jackson.

Alan Thomas “Tommy” Elledge, 72, of Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, February 11, 2018, in Nacogdoches.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 13, 2018, at St. Therese Catholic Church. Visitation will be held prior to the service, beginning at 12:00 noon.
Mr. Elledge was born April 13, 1945, in Mt. Berg, Arkansas, to Harold Beckett and Flora Allen Beckett. His hobbies included gardening and cooking. Mr. Elledge spent much time traveling and always enjoyed seeing new things. He was a member of a Masonic Lodge in Kansas City, Kansas, and St. Therese Catholic Church in Center.

Martha Eubanks, 99, of Logansport, Louisiana passed away on February 10, 2018 in Shreveport. She was born on November 25, 1918 in Shelbyville, Texas to James Munroe Green and Sarah Josephine Johnson Green. Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Logansport with Bro. Charles Hall and Dr. William T. Crosby officiating. Interment will follow at O.E. Price Memorial Cemetery in Logansport. A visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Monday, February 12, 2018 at First Baptist Church in Logansport.
Martha attended Stephen F. Austin State University and received her Bachelor’s Degree in Home Economics. While on a double date one evening, Martha happened to meet Claude Eubanks. Something caught her eye, and later the two decided to see where this interest took them. It was the start of something wonderful and on June 20, 1942, Martha and Claude were married. A beautiful life was born that day filled with family, friends, and great memories.
Nana, as her grandchildren and great-grandchildren called her, was an avid reader. She loved the adventures that she could go on in the pages she read. She also liked to try her hand at a game of 42. Lots of laughs were shared around the table when a game would strike up with family. A homemaker at heart, Martha also was a talented seamstress. She could sew and crochet some intricate and gorgeous creations. One of the most memorable things about her was that every year, she made cases of jelly. She was great at canning and her jelly was worth sharing. Martha was a faithful member of Logansport Baptist Church for almost 50 years.

Garvis Childress Jones, 78, of Joaquin, Texas, passed away on February 10, 2018 in Huxley. She was born on January 21, 1940 in Center to Thomas Russell Childress and Lera Nina Scruggs.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, February 12, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home with Bro. David Long and Bro. Luke Garrett officiating. Interment will follow at Jackson Cemetery. A visitation will be from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at Mangum Funeral Home.
Garvis grew up in Joaquin and graduated with the class of 1959 from Joaquin High School. She went on to become an administrative assistant over the years for Joaquin ISD, Texas State Bank, Farmers State Bank in Center, and Fairchild Price Law Firm.
Garvis was a woman that radiated life, love and joy to her family, friends, and anyone who had the pleasure to meet her. She loved to bake and you could always smell the sweet savors flowing from her kitchen. More than anything, she treasured the moments spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the light of her life. Her heart was full when she was surrounded by family enjoying the laughter and making memories together.
She was a member of Jackson Missionary Baptist Church in Joaquin and was very active in the Ladies Sunday School Class.

Barbara Jean Domis Wagstaff, 80, of Joaquin, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018, at her residence.

Mrs. Wagstaff was born October 28, 1937, in Englewood, California, to Ronald Earl Domis and Ruth Mae Hines Domis. Her hobbies included hunting, fishing and gardening. She was Grand Marshall of Rainbow Girls and a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. Mrs. Wagstaff was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother.

Patricia “Trish” Ann Denby Wade, 57, of Savoy, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2018 in Savoy. She was born on May 14, 1960 in Center, Texas to Henry Lamar Denby and Frances Jean White Denby. Trish grew up in the Goober Hill Community and graduated from Shelbyville High School. She continued her education at Grayson County College where she became a Licensed Vocational Nurse. Trish was a quiet, but caring person who enjoyed having fun with family and friends. She also loved spending time outdoors hunting, fishing or horseback riding. If you were feeling lucky, you might challenge her to a game of pool, but there were no guarantees you would win because she really enjoyed the game. Chi-Ann, Pinball Wizard, Vidor and Mia were just a few of the names that her friends and family would call her. Each one defined something special about Trish that they all loved. Of all the moments of her life, the birth of her grandchildren ranked at the top of the list for Trish. The genuine love she had for her grandbabies was immeasurable.

Mike Byrn Green, 73, of Alamosa, Colorado, passed away at his home on January 30, 2018. Mike was born in Atlanta, Georgia on November 21, 1944, to John Willard and Peggy Byrn Green.
Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 8, 2018 at 2PM at Woodlawn Cemetery, Timpson, Texas, with Bro. William Dee Daniel officiating.
Growing up, Mike was a champion skeet shooter and spent his childhood summers hunting and fishing in Spar City, Colorado. He served in the United States Coast Guard and took great delight in telling about packing parachutes and then being required to “test” them every month by jumping out of a plane.
He attended the University of Colorado Boulder where he majored in hotel and restaurant management. His love of food and cooking led him to become chef at the Creede Hotel, and later, to create a restaurant at the Old Miner’s Inn. He enjoyed being a chef for several years before purchasing land in the San Luis Valley on the Rio Grande. There he raised alfalfa and hay for the last 20 years.

After services, Mike will be heading home to Timpson, Texas, where he will be buried at Woodlawn Cemetery near his parents. Burial arrangements are being handled by Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa, Colorado, and Taylor Funeral Home in Timpson, Texas.

Sharron Parrozzo, 68, of Zavalla, Texas, passed away on February 5, 2018 in Zavalla. She was born on September 2, 1949 in Jacksonville, Texas to Maurice Forbis and Wanda Hughes Forbis.
Viewing will be at Wyman Roberts Funeral Home in San Augustine from 5pm until 7pm Thursday, February 8, 2018. Funeral services will be 2pm Friday, February 9, 2018 at Short Cemetery Chapel with interment to follow at 3pm.
Sharron and her family moved around a lot growing up as her father was transferred for work. They did return to Jacksonville where she would graduate from JHS before moving on to college to pursue a degree in nursing. Before becoming a licensed vocational nurse, Sharron worked as a waitress. One evening, a group of US Air Force Airmen dined at the establishment where she worked. After receiving some unwanted heckling from one of them, Sharron was standing her ground until another Airman stepped in and as any true gentleman would do, politely requested that the heckling stop. D.J. Parrozzo had caught her eye when he came to her rescue and the spark from that moment turned into a love story they would tell for years.
Sharron loved her job as an LVN. Serving others was something that came natural and was more than a job; it was a way of life. She took pride in her work and was willing to do the things that were most needed, even if it required more of her. Sometimes when things would get overwhelming and stressful, Sharron would go over to help in Labor and Delivery. Those precious moments where life began were always rejuvenating for her and reminded her of the purpose God had for her life.
Mom, as everyone would call Sharron, was a peaceful and gentle soul that was not just a caregiver by trade, but was one by heart. Sharron also had a personal relationship with the Lord that was evident in her daily walk. She loved to sing in the church choir and also sang specials with her mother. She treasured her church family and the time they were all able to fellowship. She was a member of Providence Missionary Baptist Church.
Sharron’s free time was often spent doing some sort of art work. She had a passion for art her entire life. From a young age, Sharron would paint as a hobby and developed great skill overtime. She even loved painting her fingernails. If she didn’t have paint supplies around, she would just pick up a coloring book and color her stress away on those pages. Those small, quiet moments would bring her peace and happiness as well. Sharron was a breath of fresh air, a bright smile, and a warm heart that left such a positive impression on the lives of those she came in contact with.
