Dragons Leading 23-10 at End of 1st Period

March 8, 2019 - The Shelbyville Dragons are ahead 23 to 10 against Hearne at the end of the 1st period in the first game of the UIL Boys's State Basketball Tounrnament Final Four at the Alamodome in 2A State Semi-Finals.

The hometown Center Roughriders Varsity Soccer Team defeated the visiting Henderson Lions by a 3-2 score on Tuesday to keep their District 19 4A record unblemished with three conference games remaining. Center now stands at 13-6 overall with league play at 7-0. The team is coached by Gerardo Martinez.

The game was tied at 1-1 when Adrian Huerta scored for Center to give the Roughriders a 2-1 advantage with 9 minutes remaining in the first half. ‘Rider teammate Alan Espino scored the first goal of the second half which gave the Roughriders a 3-1 advantage.

The Lions had a goal scored off a header negated because of an infraction with 7:42 left in the game. The Lions were able to regroup and scored on a Sevastian DeLeon goal with 4:51 remaining in the contest. This made the score 3-2 in Center’s favor. This proved to be the last score of the game.

March 4, 2019 - Due to the boys Advance to the State Tournament the Softball game scheduled for Friday, March 8th vs West Sabine has been moved to April 19th. Also, Martinsville can not play on their field tomorrow so the Softball game on Tuesday, March 5th will be played in Shelbyville at 4:00 pm.

With the basketball team advancing to the state tournament this week, we have postponed our district baseball games on Tuesday and Friday. The JV will also not be going to the Hemphill Tournament. The Tenaha game has been moved to Saturday, March 23rd at 1:00 at home and the Gary game has been moved to Friday, April 26th in Gary still at 6:00. There will be no baseball games played this week. Go Dragons!

February 27, 2019 - The Dragons will play in the Regional Semi Finals on Friday, March 1 at 8:00 pm vs Lovelady at Bryan High School, College Station Texas. Go Dragons!

The Shelbyville Dragons Varsity Basketball Team eliminated the Cushing Bearkats from the UIL Basketball Playoffs, by a 98-69 score, in a Class 2A Region III Quarterfinal elimination game played at Central Heights High School.

The Dragons (34-3) came into the matchup as the District 22 champions. Cushing (26-4) represented the first place seed for District 21.

Jay Buckley led scoring for the Dragons, scoring 35 points to finish as the game’s high scorer. He had 18 points at the midway break. Teammate Cole Ferguson finished the game with 21 points. Jordan Boykins added 15, LD. Coleman secured 14.

Jeremiah Wilson and Deuce Garrett led Cushing with 17 points each.  

The Dragons led 8-6 with 5:22 left in the opening period, but then went on a 18-6 run over the next 3:47 to widen the gap to 26-12. Cushing scored on a shot in the paint by Bucky Guadarrama and a 3-pointer by Garrett during a 5-0 point scoring run which pulled them back to within 26-17 by the end of the first quarter.

Cushing scored the first 10 points of the second quarter and took a one-point (27-26) lead by the 5:33 mark of the second stanza. Shelbyville went on a 16-4 run over the final 5 minutes of the quarter to go into the locker room with a 42-31 advantage at the midway break.

Shelbyville led 72-49 at the end of the third period and outscored the Bearkats 26-20 in the final quarter to take the 98-69 win.

The Dragons will face the Lovelady Lions next on Friday, March 1, 2019 at 8 p.m. at Bryan High School for the Region III Class 2A Semifinals.

Tenaha will face the Grapeland Sandies at the same location and date at 6 p.m. If both Shelby County teams should win it would force a rematch of last year’s Class 2A Region III finals which Shelbyville came out on top.

February 25, 2019 - The softball game has been changed to 4:00 pm, February 26 at Shelbyville versus Chireno.

February 25, 2019 - The Tigers battle it out in the Regional Quarterfinal round Tuesday, February 26th against Woden.

The game will tip off at 7pm at Panola Junior College. The Tigers will be the Home team.

Tickets will be $5 for adults and $3 for students at the gate.

TABC, THSCA, and District 22-2A passes only.
