Tenahas’ Cole DePriest Ballpark, Friday, April 6, 2018 –

The Tenaha Tigers Varsity Baseball Team has struggled this season after getting a late start due to going to the State Regional Finals/ Quarterfinals in basketball. Their team couldn't start the baseball season until basketball ended for them on March 2, 2018. Friday was no different as they fell to the District 23 2A leaders, the Woden Eagles by a 12-1 score. The game was possibly headed to an early end due to the league's 10-run mercy rule but was called, in the top of the fifth inning, due to inclement weather.

Tenaha fell behind by one run in the top of the first inning but tied things up 1-1 with a run in the bottom half of the first frame. Woden gained a 2-1 lead with a score by Ethan Jacobs in the top half of the second inning. Woden extended their lead to 4-1 with two runs in the top of the fourth stanza.

In the top of the fifth inning, Tiger pitcher Trenton Soto began to show some wear and was asked to leave the game after allowing Woden to load the bases with a hit batter and two single.  Senior CJ Horn came into the game in relief but struggled as well. The Eagles were able to score eight runs on four hits, which included an Eagles’ grand slam. Woden also had three free bases in the fifth inning before the weather cancellation was enforced.

Woden is now 9-0 in district play and on a 9-0 winning streak. They are 12-3 overall this season.

Tenaha is 2-8 overall and in district play. They are currently on a single game losing streak. The Tigers will next face the Martinsville Pirates at home on Tuesday, April 10, 2018. The game is at Tenahas’ Cole DePriest Ballpark with the first pitch slated for 4:30 p.m.
