May 4, 2016 - Joaquin, Shelbyville, Tenaha and Timpson High Schools all headed to Palestines Wildcat Stadium last Friday and Saturday to compete in the UIL Class 2A Regional Track and Field Championships.

Of our four county schools Shelbyville and Timpson came away with the most bragging rights with five athletes qualifying for state competition in four events.

For Shelbyville, Lady Dragon Bailey Rabalais qualified with a second place discus throw of 111.07 feet. Keana Osby won the regional 800 meter run title by posting a 2:23.18 minute time. The schools relay team of Hannah Hall, Kyra Ross, Keana Osby, and Cleosha Jeter won the 4x200 meter relay with a 1:46.22 time, and won the 4X400 meter relay by blazing through the coarse with a time of 4:07.95.

Timpson's  Devonta Thompson qualified for state in the 100 Meter Dash with a 10.6 second time. Chandler Burgay placed second to qualify with a discus throw of 129.06 feet. Jordan Osby placed third to reach the podium in the triple jump with a 42.05 feet total. Nictaeo Scourton qualified with a second place shot put throw of 46.00 feet. Hayden Smith won the 400 meter dash with a 50.76 second time to move on to the next level.

Joaquin Ram Kieth Johnson won the 100 meter hurdles with a scorching 15.31 second mark.

The state meet will take place at on May 12-14, at Mike Myers Stadium, University of Texas in Austin. 

April 29, 2016 - The Lady Riders will battle against the Hudson Lady Hornets in the 2nd round of the Bi-District Playoffs this evening, Friday, April 29, 2016. Game time has been moved to 5:00 p.m. due to inclement weather. Gate will open at 4:00 p.m. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students.

April 28, 2016 - Joaquin is PROUD to announce that several track athletes advanced to the Regional Meet, which will be in Palestine on April 29-30.

Day'za Lane qualified in all 5 of the events she competes in - Long Jump, Triple Jump, 100m, 200m, and 400m relay. What an accomplishment!!

April 28, 2016 - The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team finished District 23 2A play with a 10-0 home field win, over the Tenaha Tigers, for the Rams Senior Night. Senior Cole Powdrill pitched the entire six inning contest and allowed only one hit, a single by Tiger Tyler Muckelroy, in the fourth inning. The Tigers were retired in 1-2-3 order in the first, second, third, fifth and sixth innings.

Ram Hunter Harper broke the ice for Joaquin in the bottom of the first inning with a double deep to left center field but this would prove to be the only offense for the frame. Cole Powdrill doubled to start the bottom of the second inning but the Rams were unable to score.

Justin Hooper led off the third inning for Joaquin with an infield hit. Brock Lawson soon followed Hooper with a double. Harper added his second hit of the game with an RBI single which scored Lawson for the game's first score. A Tanner Williams double later in the third frame gave JHS a 4-0 advantage. Williams later scored on a Tiger error and JHS led 5-0  at the end of the frame.

Brock Lawson started off the fourth inning with an infield hit. Later Kase Yates scored Lawson with a long double. Williams doubled later in the inning to score Yates, and Nate Belrose who had walked. The fourth stanza ended with Joaquin leading 8-0.

Klay Adkison reached base to start the bottom of the fifth frame by being hit by a pitch. He later scored on a fielder's choice, on a ground ball hit by Hooper. This gave JHS a 9-0 lead.

In the sixth inning Joaquin loaded the bases when  Belrose and Williams singled, and Adkison walked. Tray Wilkerson drove home the winning run with a single which gave the Rams the 10-0 leaded needed to end the game by 'Mercy-Rule.'

This was Tenahas' final game of the 2016 season. Joaquin will soon announce their bi-district opponent for next week.

April 26, 2016 - The Lady Dragons will play Colmesneil, Thursday, April 28th at 6pm at the Jasper Softball Complex, Jasper, TX.

April 25, 2016 - The Shelbyville baseball game will start at 6:30pm tonight. Senior Night will be at 6pm.

April 22, 2016 - The City of Center Recreation Department is pleased to offer a couple of new adult activities. The Recreation Dept. will be trying to have adult kickball and adult softball available for all adults to participate. 

Adult Kickball will consist of teams of 11 players. Coaches are encouraged to get at least 11 players if they want to enter a team. We will also be accepting individual registrations.

Adult Softball will also be offered. Teams can sign up as either Co-...Ed, Straight, or Church Teams. If we have enough teams for each one, we will separate the teams into their own leagues.

April 21, 2016 - La Marcus Goodwin and Tyrone Roland proudly signed a letter of intent to Blinn College to play football for the 2016-2017 school year. Surrounded by their family, friends and coaches, the two young men celebrated the next step in their career.

Coach Bowman addressed the boys, as well as the crowd, thanking everyone who came and taking a moment to brag on the two young men in front of him. He parted with words of wisdom, encouraging both young men to finish college with their degrees in hand. 

April 22, 2016 - Shelbyville will play Mt. Enterprise, Saturday April 23rd in Gary, TX at 11:00 am. The Dragons will play Monday, April 25th vs Joaquin, in Shelbyville at 6:00 pm. *Senior Night will start at 5:30 pm on Monday.

April 22, 2016 - The Beckville Bearcats varsity baseball team used a 13-3 hit advantage, over the Joaquin Rams, to take a convincing 13-0 District 23 2A win at Gary High School, last Thursday. Joaquin remains in second place in the conference with a 9-3 mark. The Bearcats remain unbeaten with an unblemished 12-0 league mark. They are 20-0-1 overall and have clinched the district title.

The Bearcats used hits by Ethan Harris, Zach Collins and John Bounds to jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning.

Joaquin threatened to score in the bottom half of the inning when Hunter Harper walked and Kase Yates singled but Bearcat pitcher, Braden Wise was able to strike out the next two Rams batters to end the threat.

BHS exploded for six hits in the top of the third inning and ballooned their lead to 10-0. They used an error, two hit batters and an RBI double by Collins to boost their advantage to 12-0 in the fourth inning. Cole Powdrill came in to pitch for the Rams and the JHS defense rallied to end the inning without any additional Bearcats scoring.

Brandt Harris scored Ethan Harris with a sacrifice grounder in the fifth frame to give Beckville a 13-0 lead.

Joaquin rallied to load the bases with an infield single by Tanner Williams, a single to right field by Justin Hooper and a walk by Brock Lawson but, Wise was able to help close out JHS by striking out the final two outs needed to end the game by the district's ten-run-rule.

The Rams will host the Tenaha Tigers at 6:30 pm on Tuesday, April 26.
