Joaquin Rams Ballpark on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 –

The Joaquin Rams varsity baseball team finished District 23 2A play with a 18-2 run home win over the visiting Martinsville Pirates. The win gives the Rams a 21-6-1 overall standing but more importantly JHS finished with a second place 11-3 conference mark. The Pirates finished their season with a 2-12 record.

The game was close early as Joaquin carried a slim 3-2 run lead into the bottom of the third inning but the third frame saw JHS blow the game wide open. During the rally the Rams hit safely six times, earned nine free bases, capitalized on a Pirates error, and saw 20 batters come to the plate while scoring 12 runs.

The game was eventually ended, after 4 ½ innings, by mercy rule.

Joaquin is tied for the second seed with Shelbyville in District 23 and they will now wait to see who their Bi-District opponent is in the UIL Baseball Playoffs next week.

Shelbyville Dragons Ballpark on Friday, April 21, 2023 –

The Shelbyville Dragons varsity baseball team fell short of remaining tied atop the District 23-2A leader board by dropping their last conference home game to the Garrison Bulldogs by a 3-1 score. The loss gives the Dragons a 10-3 district mark and a 15-8-1 overall season standing. They are currently tied for second place with Joaquin, also 10-3 in conference action. Garrison stands atop District 23 with a 12-1 mark.

Garrison scored first when Eli Compton reached first base on a Dragon error to start the top of the third inning. Compton moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Tryton Kruse and later scored on another error giving GHS a 1-0 run advantage. Garrison rallied and loaded the bases in the top of the fourth and Travis Burkhalter crossed the plate on a bases loaded walk. Andrew Curbow later scored on a passed ball behind the catcher giving Garrison a 3-0 lead.

Shelbyville scored in the bottom of the fifth inning when Wyatt Frick and Cam Mason each reached base on Bulldog errors and Dragon Justin Raymond singled up the middle for an RBI single. This put the score at 3-1 and was the games final score.

Garrison pitcher Eli Compton pitched 4 1/3 innings giving up two hits, striking out four batters, and walking one batter. Teammate Hayden Allen gave up no hits or walks in  two and 2/3rds innings.

Shelbyville saw Weston Frick pitch 6 1/3 innings giving up five hits, four walks, and striking out six batters. Teammate Jason Fleming threw 2/3 inning giving up no hits or walks.

Shelbyville will travel to Timpson for their final conference game on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 6 p.m. at Timpson Bears Ballpark.

April 21, 2023 - Joaquin versus Garrison HS softball game scheduled for today has been moved to Saturday, April 22nd in Joaquin at 5pm.

The Shelbyville Lady Dragons gained a 10-0 run District 23 2A varsity softball win over the visiting Martinsville Lady Pirates on Tuesday. The win gives the Lady Dragons a 16-11-1 overall record and a 7-4 District 22 2A mark. This keeps them in contention for a playoff berth with a single conference game left to be played.

Shelbyville rallied in the bottom of the first inning and saw scores from Kylie Snell, Taylor Jones, Lanie Bass, Kara Jones and Emilee Pharris which gave them a 5-0 run advantage.

Snell scored her second run of the contest in the bottom of the second giving SHS a 6-0 lead. Runs scored by Gracie Leach and Kaleigh Mize in the third frame gave Shelbyville an 8-0 lead. Taylor Jones reached base in the fourth inning and later scored the Lady Dragons ninth run.

After reaching base on a walk, Kylie Snell alertly scored her third run of the contest when she raced home to score on a ball which got behind the Martinsville catcher. This gave the Lady Dragons a 10-0 run advantage and ended the game on mercy rule during the bottom of the fifth inning.

Taylor Jones struck out 6 batters for Shelbyville. She walked just one batter and gave up 3 hits.

The Lady Dragons will host the Lady Bearcats of Beckville on Friday, April 21, 2023 at Lady Dragons Stadium.

Center Horseshoe Ballpark on Friday, April 14, 2023 –

The Center Lady Roughriders fell at home to the Spring Hill Lady Panthers by a 5-1 run score. The loss places the Lady ‘Riders overall mark at 2-17 and their District 17 Class 4A mark at 1-7 with two district games remaining. The Lady Panthers are 23-7-1 and 7-1 in the conference.

Lady Panther Jovi Spurlock led off the game with a walk and scored with two out when Khloe Saxon doubled to centerfield with two outs in the top of the first inning for the game’s first score. Teammate Mattye Moore scored Spring Hills’ second run by walking to start the inning and advancing home on a Center fielder’s error. SHHS went up 3-0 in the top of the fourth inning when Josie Gray led off with a single to rightfield, she scored later after tagging up on a teammate’s sacrifice fly and then she ran home.

Delaney Gray and Khloe Saxon added on runs for the Lady Panthers in the top of the seventh inning to give Spring Hill a 5-0 advantage going into Center’s final at-bat.

Lady Roughrider senior catcher Ryleigh Youngblood reached base on an error by a Lady Panthers baseman. Pinch runner S. Neuwrith scored on an errant throw for the game's final run of the game for CHS which put the game’s final tally at 5-1.

Center pitchers Julie Bird and Destiny Arcibar teamed up giving up only 4 hits, Bird struck out one, they walked 5 batters. Center committed three errors during the contest. SHHS was led pitching by Delaney Gray who gave up 5 hits, struck out 6, and walked 1 batter. The Lady Panthers committed one error.

The Lady Roughriders will travel to Kilgore High School on Friday, April 18, 2023 for a 6 p.m. conference game at Bulldogs Stadium. Kilgore is also 1-7 in the conference. They lost to Gilmer Friday by a 25-0 score.

April 14, 2023 - Shelbyville High School Senior, Tim Mason competed at the Regional Tennis Tournament this week and finished 3rd closing out his tennis career at Shelbyville.

Jerred Wallace, Athletic Director, shared, “Although it was not the finish we were hoping for he had a great showing. Tim had a very good season and worked extremely hard to bring a medal home and we are very proud! Go Dragons.”

The Joaquin Lady Rams varsity softball team took a 3-0 run win Tuesday over the visiting Timpson Lady Bears. The Lady Rams are currently in second place in District 22 2A play with an 8-2 conference mark with two district games remaining this season. The Lady Bears are in third place in District 22 with a 5-4 mark. They have three conference games left.

Joaquin scored first when Ellie Anglin led off the bottom of the first inning with a double to rightfield. She later scored on a passed ball behind the catcher. With one out in the inning, Brooklyn Bagley reached base on a walk and scored on a Halle Bonner double to leftfield which gave the Lady Rams a 2-0 run advantage.

Good defense by both teams kept this game close in the middle stages and a double play by Joaquin pitcher Brooklyn Bagley ended a Timpson rally in the top of the fourth.

Ellie Anglin led off the bottom of the fourth and later scored the final run of the contest when she ran home when teammate Kate Fuller doubled to centerfield. Joaquin was able to hold on defensively for the win.

Bagley struck out six, walked two and gave up only four hits to the Lady Bears. Lady Bear Alexis Grigsby struck out six, walked 3 and gave up 5 hits.

Joaquin is now 19-9 overall they will host the conference leading Beckville Lady Bearcats on Friday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Timpson is now 15-5 overall and they will host the seventh place Martinsville Lady Pirates on Friday, April 14 at 5:30 p.m.

Girls Games start at 4pm, Boys Games start at 6pm

April 11, 2023 - The Longview Orthopedic Clinic association is proud to host The Sports Medicine All Star Shootout in memory of long time athletic trainer Mike "Runt" Ramsey on Saturday, April 15th at the Tenaha Special Event Center.

The girls game will start at 4pm and the boys game will start at 6pm. Senior Boys and Girls from all over East Texas will participate.

All proceeds from the gate go to the Mike "Runt" Ramsey Scholarship Fund.

The Tenaha Booster Club will have the concession featuring everyone's favorite: the Tiger Cafe Fried Catfish.
