The Center Lady Roughriders varsity softball team struggled and lost 11-1 to the undefeated (9-0) Jasper Lady Bulldogs. Tuesday’s game was Center’s final home game and they hosted a Senior Day for student athletes Gracie Wisenant, Kaiya Hubbard and Skylar Causey.

The Lady Bulldogs used a walk, error and a double from Kiara Sells to extend an early lead to 5-0 runs by the middle of the second inning. JHS rallied again in the top of the third to balloon their lead to 11-0 going into the top of the fourth.

It appeared Jasper would be retired early in the third frame but an error extended the inning. Jasper nearly scored but leftfielder Gracie Wisenant made an excellent play on a hard hit double to the outfield and the Lady Roughriders were able to end the inning by relaying the ball into home plate to retire the final out without an additional score.

Ryleigh Youngblood led off the bottom half of the fourth inning by walking. She later scored what would prove to be the game’s final run when Julie Bird singled to centerfield.

Center is now in a two-way tie with Carthage High School for fourth place in District 17 4A with one game remaining. Each team holds a 4-5 conference mark with one game remaining. Carthage will host Palestine on Friday, April 22, 2022. Center heads to Jasper to face the Lady Bulldogs again. First pitch at Bulldogs Ballpark is Friday at 6:30 p.m.
