July 31, 2023 - Back in the fifties, I became pastor of the Bonaldo Baptist Church in Nacogdoches county. Located near the Angelina River, the church had an old log cabin parsonage (inhabited mainly with rats and snakes) and their ancient water well was filled with years of “dinner on the ground” leftovers.

April 17, 2023 - My son Mark and I were talking about Hurricane Laura last night and somehow got to talking about a VW Beetle we had when he was about 14 years old. It was a ’52 Model, had a 29HP motor, and could hardly pull the hat off your head. Mark was just learning to drive, and we let him drive the VW 100 yards to the sanctuary and back.

May 17, 2022 - When I built my first Gun Ship on Highway 96 in Lumberton, Texas (1975), James Van Cleef was one of my first customers.  He lived in Port Neches, Texas and was a butcher in a large grocery store there. His interest in firearms was limited to Colt Single action pistols…no rifles or shotguns…just Colt revolvers.  We became close friends and learned a lot from each other.
