November 20, 2017 - On November 20, 2017, The Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service - Shelby Family & Community Health (FCH) Committee was presented $5,000 for adult and youth programming promoting the health and well-being of low-income individuals in the Superior Health Plan community. Several hundred grant applications across the state of Texas were submitted for consideration.
June 16, 2016 - The 2016 Texas 4-H Roundup contest was held in College Station, Texas on the campus of Texas A&M University from June 6-9, 2016. Texas 4-H Roundup is a qualifying and invitational event for youth between the ages of 11 and 18 that have successfully placed in a qualifying event at the district level or signed up to compete in an invitational event at the state level.

January 11, 2016 - The Shelby County Beekeepers Club will meet on Thursday, January 28th at the active Shelby County courthouse, 2nd floor meeting room at 11:30 a.m. James Dotson will present a program on “The Art of Meade Making” and Mike Bordelon will explain making cream honey. Suggestions will also be given for what to do for the bees in the winter in our area. Bring a lunch and meet beekeepers from the East Texas area.

Many parents will be giving their teens a smart phone this Christmas season. While this amazing technology has made life much more convenient, it is well known that these devices are also responsible for many distracted driving crashes. What might not be apparent are the dangers that smart phones pose for teens when they are walking — especially crossing streets.
November 23, 2015 - The “Texas Food Establishment Rules (TFER)” was recently revised and updated and effective October 11, 2015. A major change in the revision now requires all food employees to complete an accredited food handlers training program within 60 days of employment, effective September 16, 2016.
November 4, 2015 - The Shelby County AgriLife Extension office is excited to announce that a new 4-H club will begin at the Piney Woods Outreach Center located at 255 Haley Drive in Center. All Shelby County youth ages 8 to 18 are invited to join in the fun.
October 23, 2015 - The ETMC Cancer Institute Mobile Digital Mammography Unit will be on the historic Shelby County square Tuesday, November 3, 2015 from 9:30 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. providing mammograms for women with or without insurance. To schedule a digital mammogram, please call Daphne or Jheri-Lynn at 936-598-7744. Space is limited and offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.
October 14, 2015 - The Shelby County Beekeepers Club will meet Wednesday, October 21st at the active Shelby County courthouse, 2nd floor meeting room from 11:30am – 1pm. This month’s topic will include summer hive management, bee and wasp identification and testing moisture levels in honey.
