July 20, 2016 (Photos by Sonya Wilburn) - The White Rock Missionary Baptist Church youth group traveled to the Shelby County Sheriff's Department and the Center Police Department to deliver baskets of goodies and words of appreciation on Thursday, July 14, 2016.
Following recent events in the world, the kids told Sonya Wilburn, youth leader at the church, they wanted to do something nice for local law enforcement. Wilburn told the kids that it does not matter what your skin color is or who you are - every life matters. No matter who passes away someone is affected by death because they have parents, children or close friends and their life matters.
Wilburn said, "We wanted to do something nice to show appreciation to our law enforcement. All you ever hear is bad things going on in the world and I wish we could change that but we can't, but we can sure encourage people to do what's right. Every life matters!"
The group went to both the departments and presented them with a basket full of chips and candy and a message, 'Have some treats before you hit the streets!'
While at the police department, officers gave the youth a tour of the station and let them try on some of the equipment an officer wears. All enjoyed the visit.

July 20, 2016 - The Center Police Department is proud and excited to accept the needed donations from the donors listed at the end of this article.
After learning that the police department was in dire need of a protective cover for their marked patrol fleet. The local business community has come together and graciously donated 100% of the funds and or materials needed to install a carport for the marked Police cars.
This construction project will ensure that the Patrol units are protected as best possible from the extreme elements (heat) and assist in extending the life of the sensitive and expensive electronic equipment within.

This project was made possible through the donations of funds, material and labor, which will assist our Center Police Department in being ready and able to make our community a better place.
As always, it is the Center Police Department's goal to ensure, "our community our commitment" extends to all.
The City of Center and the Center Police Dept. continue to be pleased to have such a helpful and gracious business community in and around Center; Shelby County, Texas.
Center City Council approval granted on 07/11/2016 project completed on 07/15/2016. We give a dedicated thank you to all of our local supporters.
Sincerely: Staff of the Center Police Dept.
Signed,

July 18, 2016 Sometimes we are encouraged to “look again” at a familiar scene from a movie, a work of art, or a situation and thereby discover subtle but important details which escaped us in our first encounter.
The Timpson Area Genealogical and Heritage Society will do just that at their July meeting as they view photos of the architectural details of some of Timpson's historical buildings and try to identify the building to which they belong. Timpson has many beautiful and architectually significant buildings and homes and most of us have driven and walked by them hundreds of times. However, we seldom stop to
examine them closely, but when we do, we may see things we have never noticed before. Here is your chance to see them with new eyes!
TAGHS invites everyone to play a game of “What Building is This” at their regular monthly meeting at 2PM on Wednesday, July 20 in the meeting room of the Timpson Public Library, located on the corner of Austin and Bremond Streets.

July 15, 2016 - A large crowd gathered including Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors and members of the community to welcome Chicken Express on Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at their Chamber Ribbon Cutting.
Pam Phelps, Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, and Meg Camp, Ambassador President, congratulated owners Steve and Selena Windham on the new business. The Windhams thanked everyone for coming and for the support the community has given them since the restaurant opened April 18th.
The restaurant employs just under 40 employees and during the first week of opening took over 9,500 orders which set a record. After the ribbon cutting, Selena Windham reminisced about the opening week and how busy they were. She and other employees took turns trying to help direct traffic because of the number of customers coming into the restaurant. Steve Windham said the first week they had daily deliveries coming in to restock the restaurant. The second week was almost as busy as the first and now they have leveled out to two full truck deliveries each week.

The Windhams spoke about the startup process and how efficient Chicken Express Corporate was with the layout of the restaurant and training of the employees. The first week went very smoothly thanks to corporate having staff come in and work with them every step of the way which ensured the Chicken Express reputation of providing fast, friendly service of the best quality food!
Chicken Express is located at 323 Tenaha Street in Center and has a selection of items on the menu from fish, chicken, chicken tenders and hot wings. They have several sides including fried pickles, cheese sticks, corn nuggets and fried okra. Their serving sizes range from single servings to family size orders and a catering service reputed to be able to feed a small army.
