Heroes Remembered Korean War Armistice 63rd Anniversary

July 18, 2016 - On June 25, 1950, the North Korean Army began an offensive to invade South Korea that resulted in the capture of the republic’s capital, Seoul, within four days. The United States, the United Kingdom and other members of the United Nations moved to actively defend South Korea – an effort that would last until July 27, 1953, when negotiations concluded and fighting finally ended.

Presidential Proclamation - Honoring the Victims of the Attack in Nice, France

July 15, 2016 - The President of the United States has issued a proclamation ordering the flag of the United States to be displayed at half-staff from now until sunset on July 19, 2016. Remember to lower all flags that are being flown with the US Flag as no flag should be higher. Flags that cannot be lowered can have a black cord or ribbon tied to the top of the staff to show respect.

VFW Post 8904 & Auxiliary to Remember D-Day with Laying of Memorial Wreath

June 3, 2016 - On June 6, 1944, 160,000 Allied troops landed along a 50-mile stretch of heavily-fortified French coastline to fight Nazi Germany on the beaches of Normandy, France. General Dwight D. Eisenhower called the operation a crusade in which “we will accept nothing less than full victory.” More than 5,000 Ships and 13,000 aircraft supported the D-Day invasion, and by day’s end on June 6, the Allies gained a foot- hold in Normandy.

Memorial Day Observance May 30th

May 12, 2016 - Shelby County Memorial VFW Post 8904 & the Auxiliary will hold their annual Memorial Day Program on Monday, May 30th, 2016 at 11 am in Fellowship Hall of the First United Methodist Church, 211 Porter Street, Center, Texas.

Names of all Shelby County Veterans killed in action from the Civil War to today’s War on Terror will be read. The memorial wreath will be decorated by those in attendance as the names are read.
