Veterans of Somalia to be Remembered

March 27, 2016 - Americans consider themselves to be a compassionate people, and the United States military has a long tradition of humanitarian relief operations both within and outside the continental United States. Never has this humanitarian impulse proven more dangerous to follow than in 1992 when the United States intervened to arrest famine in the midst of an ongoing civil war in the East African country of Somalia.

VFW Stands With Belgium

March 24, 2016 - VFW National Commander John Biedrzycki said the VFW stands with ally Belgium as it mourns in the wake of a vicious and cowardly attack on Tuesday by radical Islamic extremists who are “hell-bent on destroying us and our entire way of life." The Chief called America vulnerable because it has porous borders, a broken immigration system, and elected and appointed officials who refuse to recognize this enemy as a threat to national security.

Flags at Half-Staff Alert

March 23, 2016 - As a mark of respect for the victims of the senseless acts of violence perpetrated on March 22, 2016 in Brussels, Belgium, the President has issued a Presidential Proclamation that flags be flown at half-staff until sunset, Saturday, March 26th.  If you have other flags such as the state flag flying with the US Flag they are to also be lowered.  If you have a flag that cannot be lowered a black cord or ribbon can be tied at the top to show respect.

VFW Post 8904, Auxiliary Invite Public to Kosovo Remembrance

March 20, 2016 - 17 years ago on March 24, 1999 NATO launched an air campaign called Operation Allied force to halt the humanitarian devastation that was then unfolding in Kosovo. The decision to intervene followed more than a year of fighting within the province and the failure of international efforts to resolve the conflict by diplomatic means. NATO announced the suspension of the air campaign on June 10, 1999 once it had concluded a military technical agreement with the federal republic of Yugoslavia.

Flags to Fly at half-staff in Honor of Nancy Reagan

March 16, 2016 - The President of the United States has issued a proclamation ordering the flag of the United States to be displayed at half-staff from now until sunset on the day of Mrs. Nancy Reagan's interment, which has not yet been scheduled.   If your flag cannot be lowered a black cloth or ribbon can be tied to the top to show respect.  Remember all flags flying with your US Flag should also be lowered as no flag should ever fly higher that the US Flag.

Desert Storm Observance Rescheduled

February 25, 2016 - The observance for those who served in Operation Desert Storm that was scheduled for tomorrow, Friday, February 26th at 10:00 am has been rescheduled for Monday, February 29th at 10:00 am.  It will still be held at the Veterans Memorial on the grounds of the Historic Courthouse.  

This change due to funeral of post life member Billy Kent on Friday.
