Wednesday at Center High School saw senior student athlete MaKaiya Hubbard sign a letter of intent to play softball and study at Navarro College. The signing took place at Center's High School Library with Hubbard's family, faculty, fellow students, friends, and press witnessing the festivities.
The Center Roughriders hosted the Palestine Wildcats on Tuesday in District 17 4A Girls and Boys varsity basketball games.
The first quarter of the girl’s varsity game saw Palestine build a 14-5 lead. Center outpaced PHS 10 points to 9 in the second quarter but the Lady Wildcats still held an 23-15 lead at the midway intermission.
The Timpson Bears girls and boys varsity basketball teams each competed at Tenaha on Friday. The Lady Bears girls team fell to the Lady Tigers by a 44-35 score. The Bears boys beat the Tigers by a 75-72 score.
The Tenaha Lady Tigers and the Tigers each took District 23 2A varsity basketball wins over Gary High School on Tuesday at Bobcats Gymnasium. The Lady Tigers defeated the Lady Bobcats by a 62-31 score. The Tigers boys team defeated the Bobcats by a much narrower 43-40 score.
The Shelbyville Lady Dragons and Dragons varsity basketball teams each took District 23 2A wins over Joaquin High School on Friday. In girl’s varsity play Shelbyville won by a 56-43 score. The Dragons boy’s team won by a narrow 60-57 score.
Tuesday night saw the Center Roughriders varsity and junior varsity girls and boys basketball teams host the Carthage Bulldogs for District 17 4A games.
In varsity action the Lady Roughriders led at the end of the first quarter by an 8-5 score. Carthage was able to outscore Center 12-4 during the second stanza and they led 17-12 at the midway break.
The Center Lady Roughriders varsity basketball team improved their District 17 4A record to 2-0 with a 41-33 home win over the Jasper Lady Bulldogs on Tuesday.
