The Joaquin Rams varsity football team led most of Thursday’s varsity opener against the visiting Beckville Bearcats but, they ultimately fell by a 50-39 score in a disappointing loss.
Shelby County high school football is headed into Week 1 of regular season, non-district, football competition. All five county teams have a game this week.

The Shelbyville Dragons varsity football team played host to the Alto Yellow Jackets Friday for both teams final preseason scrimmage. Both teams got in much needed work while preparing for regular season, predistrict games, which begin next week.
On Thursday Joaquin High School's Rams football program hosted the Logansport Tigers for varsity and junior varsity preseason scimmages. JV line-of-scrimmage action started the day with each school's team taking turns running their offense for set amounts of plays. The schools got a lot of needed work in but neither team was able to score.
The Tenaha Tigers varsity football team traveled to Joaquin on Friday to face the Rams in a preseason scrimmage. Each team took turns on possessions in order to get in much needed work both offenseively and defensively. Temperatures were in the mid 90's reulting in frequent water breaks.
The practice session ended with a time-metered quarter which ended with the Rams leading 12-0.
Center ISD recently wrapped up their 2021 summer football camp for grades 1-5. The camp was held for three days and taught the youth football skills with drills and competitions. Head Coach Richard Meeks was spotted among a crew of about ten coaches who helped with instruction during the event.
