Commissioners Move to Resurrect Hazard Mitigation Plan, Address Variety of Issues

March 23, 2022 - The Shelby County Commissioners held a lengthy meeting Wednesday, March 2, 2022, addressing multiple issues important to the county of which a Hazard Mitigation Plan was a leading concern.

A Hazard Mitigation Plan is something necessary for the county to have in place and should be updated every five years per FEMA regulation. Not having a plan in place would make the county ineligible for certain grant programs such as flood mitigation assistance, hazard mitigation grant program and pre-disaster mitigation competitive.

Timpson VFD Fights House Fire; Cause Under Investigation

March 14, 2022 - The Timpson Volunteer Fire Department (VFD) responded to the house fire near the Panola County line, and Sheriff Kevin Windham confirmed the State Fire Marshal has been called in to determine the cause of the fire due to its suspicious nature.

According to the Timpson VFD, they responded to the house fire on CR 4916 on Sunday, March 13, 2022, and when the fire fighters arrived around 4:10am the house was fully involved in the fire and the residents had already evacuated from the structure.
