April 30, 2021 - Brisket, Pork, Sausage, Ribs oh my! All your Moodyville BBQ favorites are back and available on Thursdays and Fridays from 11am until 7pm.
July 27, 2020 - What kind of statement is that? How can a man who is writing about baseball and softball in general, and about hitting in particular, ever make a claim so outlandish? The batter never“sees” the ball?
Well, I can. I did. It’s true, and I’ll prove it to you. Don’t just “listen” to what you are about to read, “hear” the words and “learn” from them.
July 20, 2020 - In softball, a popular concept of batting (in every part of the country), is for the batter to set up in the batter’s box with her front foot forward of the plate. They, too many coaches and most players, have not considered that method as completely as they might have.
When I ask a player why she sets up so far forward, the most frequent answer I get is, “when the pitcher throws a drop pitch, I can hit it before it drops too low to hit.”
July 13, 2020 - Torque: The action that causes rotation or twisting. (Extremely important).
Fact: Torque initiates or gives birth to power. (Memorize that sentence---do not forget it). Fact: Power creates energy. Fact: Torque is a storehouse (of) energy. Fact: Torque is a storehouse (for) energy.
July 6, 2020 - This letter is not directed just to coaches, parents, and grandparents of kids playing baseball and softball, but to every parent living in Shelby County. The following is vital to you as a caregiver to your young.
If you are a parent with a child age seven to seventeen, ask your child this question:
“If you had your choice, would you rather be the fastest boy or girl in the world, or the quickest boy or girl in the world?”
June 29, 2020 - Beginning with this issue every coach, parent, man or woman, who has young boys or girls in their care should read this message until they understand its contents and its importance for their continued growth as a hitter.
“You’re trying too hard, or “don’t try so hard.”
As a player, has any coach ever offered that advice to you? Probably. As a coach, could you even begin to know how many times you have uttered those words to one of your players? Too many to count, right?
June 22, 2020 - This week’s letter is the last of three that you may say to yourself “I already knew that,” and you probably did already “know that.” But, next week, with Issue #Four, I will begin to ease you into places where few coaches and certainly no young baseball or softball player has ever gone. If your desire for “learning” the game is as powerful as your desire for “playing” the game, you will never want the issues to stop.
June 16, 2020 - Citizens of Shelby County, my name is Stevie Smith, and I am a candidate in the run-off for Shelby County Commissioner, Precinct 3. I want to thank everyone for your support and votes from the general election back in March.
June 15, 2020 - Continuing with Brad Taylor and his second installment of "letters of baseball and softball data that can dictate the success or failure of every boy or girl playing those sports in Shelby County. The first three issues will deal with "common sense material" to some parents, but your children should he encouraged to read them, if only to help them understand the pitfalls they may encounter." Taylor's Issue #One titled "How Much Sense Does This Make?" was posted on June 8, 2020.
