Sheriff Blackwell Reports on Two Separate Incidents from July

October 5, 2015 - According to two press releases from the Sheriff's Department, a man was charged for aggravated kidnapping and in a separate case a woman was charged with burglary of a habitation. Both were arrested in July 2015. Neither case has been indicted by a Shelby County Grand Jury as of October 5, 2015.

Deron Vodre Bowlds, 22, of Logansport, Louisiana was arrested July 7, 2015 after allegedly kidnapping his ex-girlfriend, Jessica Lee Barber, causing seriously bodily injury, stemming from an incident that occurred June 29, 2015.

Sheriff's Department Investigates Blount Pharmacy Burglary

September 22, 2015 - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) is investigating a burglary that occurred September 21, 2015 at approximately 11:09 p.m. at Blount Pharmacy on U.S. Highway 84 East in Joaquin.

SCSO deputies Michael Griffin and Bradley Horton arrived on scene to find a substantial amount of damage to the front of the structure caused from unknown suspects attempting to remove a metal door.

Sheriff Warns Against Abuse of 911

September 11, 2015 - The Shelby County Sheriff's Office is experiencing excessive amounts of 911 calls from children who are using cell phones for play. Cell phones that are no longer being used whether they are activated or deactivated – with or without a SIM card, are still able to place emergency calls.

Parents and guardians need to be aware that they are responsible for children who call 911. Abuse of emergency service calls can lead to your arrest.

Sheriff's Department Investigates Theft; $10,000 Reward Offered

August 28, 2015 - Shelby County Sheriff Willis Blackwell reports that unknown suspect(s) entered into a vehicle belonging to Mr. Terry Bailey at his residence. Suspect(s) stole several Apple iPhones and money.

Mr. Terry Bailey has offered a $10,000 dollar reward for the arrest and conviction of suspect(s) involved in this theft.

SCSO Ask For Security Systems to be Registered, No Fee

August 7, 2015 - Shelby County Today was notified that according to Texas Local Government Code, Sec. 118.133, Shelby County does not meet qualifications to be able to adopt a system by which the county charges a fee for false alarms.
